“I’M NOT A TYPICAL ACCOUNTANT.”
Estelle Hope is a Senior Manager within our Business Advisory Services team. Based in Glasgow, she works with a really mixed bag of clients – her portfolio ranges from solo taxi drivers, right up to non-audit group companies. This covers a wide range of business types making every day interesting.
As well as helping clients meet their legislative requirements, Estelle makes sure that they are up to date with everything. She also takes time to understand their aspirations, helping them grow, develop and achieve their goals. If they need advice in other areas, or support with a bigger project, that’s something she relishes – because that’s an opportunity to add even greater value.
Estelle also mentors and trains the team to help them achieve their career goals and ensure client service delivery is of the highest standard.
BUILDING A RAPPORT
“You need to build up a relationship with a client. It isn’t good client care to phone them up once a year to prepare the accounts with no other discussions. I like to make them feel comfortable and build a rapport. Help them see that I’m their trusted adviser. I want my clients to know that they can ask me anything and I’ll always get back to them quickly. They know they’ll always get an honest answer – even if that’s not necessarily the one they want to hear.”
HAVING AN IMPACT
“There’s nothing better than being able to help clients realise their aspirations for their business. No matter how big or small. Every company I work with has its own goals and objectives – but many just don’t know how to make them happen. It’s great to give advice or guidance and then see clients achieve everything they’ve set out to do.
As well as helping my clients do great things, I also like to help people in my team develop. I get a real buzz from seeing them learn and grasp opportunities to stretch themselves. I’m always there to give support when they need it. It’s like I can play a part in their journey to becoming a fully qualified accountant – and that’s such a privilege.”
PUSHING FORWARD
“I think AAB has a very innovative, forward-thinking approach. Any company can do the numbers or compliance, the difference is we always strive for more in terms of the service we provide and the technology we use.
I work with many small companies, either owner managed businesses or family firms. Often, they’re spending so much time filling in spreadsheets or sorting through envelopes full of receipts. So we play quite a big part in encouraging and supporting them to adopt the latest cloud-based technology. A move that can make their life so much easier.”
GOING THE EXTRA MILE
“I’m very ambitious and committed to my job and strive to help my clients to be successful. I’m also very versatile and open to learning and developing. If there’s something new, you can just throw me in, and I’ll get on with it.
A client once commented that I’m always willing to go the extra mile. Another said I wasn’t a typical accountant and was endearing – something I take as a compliment! Our industry has a reputation for being a bit dull and unexciting. But I hope once you work with me and AAB, you’ll realise that’s not true at all, as it’s not just about the numbers it’s about the people behind the numbers.”
