Tax Dispute Resolution

In many cases, disagreements between HMRC and taxpayers are not black and white.  This requires both taxpayers and HMRC to change the way in which they manage their relationships with each other. AAB’s approach to preventing, managing and resolving tax disputes anticipates and mirrors that of HMRC. Effective tax dispute resolution will often be as much to do with preventing a dispute as it is with managing and resolving disputes when they occur.

We have a diverse team of dispute resolution specialists covering all taxes and business areas. Our team are able to support clients with every aspect of their interaction with HMRC from strategy through to resolution. Many of our team have worked for HMRC in the past, which means that we have extensive knowledge of their approach to tax risk management.  Our team use their understanding of tax administration, including HMRC’s information powers, to better manage the interaction with HMRC. In all our dealings with HMRC, we are fully aware of the penalty regimes applicable, and ensure that all actions provide for the maximum reductions available for any potential penalties chargeable.

Where the disagreement is more fundamental and it is not possible to resolve the matter satisfactorily with HMRC, we also support our clients through the litigation of matters at the Tax Tribunals.

Please see the link below to illustrates the type of support that we can provide our client’s at the First Tier Tribunal.
