Meet the Restructuring & Recovery team
A variety of business owners and individuals across the UK and Ireland.
Devising insolvency procedures to deliver the best way forward.
Gary Digney is a Restructuring & Recovery Partner based in our Dublin office. With over 15 years’ experience working with lenders, individuals and companies in financial distress across the UK and Ireland Gary is integral to the work that we do.
As both a licensed insolvency practitioner and chartered accountant Gary has built a reputation for delivering outstanding results for his clients. By utilising existing and new legislation he has been recognised as a ‘game changer’ in debt resolution by experts.
“The nature of the work I do often occurs at the worst time of people’s lives. They’re in a state of high stress, feeling like there’s no light at the end of the tunnel. That’s where we come in- we’re the light. We work with the client and everyone else involved to reach a solution that is agreeable for everyone. It’s an amazing feeling being able to advise clients to a resolution they might not have thought possible. Giving them the peace of mind that we are able to support them and provide the advice they need.
The longer someone ignores the situation the smaller our options are. That doesn’t mean we can’t help- the opposite actually. We will always be honest with clients about where they are and also how possible where they want to be is. We’ll do everything we can to get them there.”
“It’s not just about the advice we’re able to give- it’s also about the way in which we help. I pride myself on project managing the work from start to finish and ensuring clients and stakeholders are kept up to date with progress along the way. Open and honest communication is essential. This way of working allows us to provide clear overviews of not only our responsibility but also theirs, alongside expectations and setting agreed timescales for us all to work towards.”
“There must be trust, clients have to trust you and vice versa, once that is established then we can move forward and find the appropriate solution. Empathy and compassion are key skills required in our work, we genuinely care about our clients and there is no better feeling when a business is restructured, jobs saved or an Individual has reached a settlement on their debts. These moments are so rewarding, you can see the stress relieved and the emotion whenever a solution is reached. After we successfully restructured a debtor’s personal debts, retaining the family home and family business, a client once sent me a lovely card with a guardian angel figure inside, certainly the first time I have been called ‘an angel.'”
“One of the best parts of being in the Group is that we have a variety of expertise and knowledge not only within our team but across a variety of service lines. It means that we can share knowledge and best practices as a whole to best support our clients effectively.
“When a client comes to us there’s sometimes a real dark cloud hanging over them. They are potentially facing the loss of jobs of people that they’ve spent time with over the years- these are people they genuinely care about. At the same time their livelihood is up in the air and all that pressure and responsibility can weigh them down. In turn that sometimes leads to pressure on us as they expect we can provide a solution for them almost overnight. These things take time and it’s important that we get it right- not just rush into a solution because it’s easy.
It all goes back to that open and honest communication. We let clients know what is possible- how we are going to help, and we work together on that. It is so rewarding to be able to finish working with a client and know that you’ve been able to turn it around for them.”
