The AAB Apprenticeship Programme is a fantastic alternative route into a career in accountancy and business advisory. Instead of going to university, you will start to study towards your chosen professional qualification just one year after commencement of employment at AAB. With a clear career path outlined practical experience is gained from day one, with routes to professional qualifications discussed and agreed at the time when the trainee is ready to take on this study commitment. 

As part of our apprenticeship programme, you will also be joining our other trainees undertaking internship, student placement and graduate trainee roles and learning alongside them. We are a very social firm, value good relationships and encourage participation in the numerous sports, social and fundraising events organised by Social Club and through AABi.

Professional Qualification

Our apprenticeship programme is tailored to individual goals; with, school and college leavers typically joining our Corporate Finance, Global Employment Taxes, Payroll or Business Advisory teams.

AAB’s award winning Corporate Finance team have been recognised as Scotland’s Top Dealmakers for the past 15 years. The team work with businesses across a vast number of sectors and act as key advisors during key points of change. Joining AAB’s Corporate Finance team will give you exposure to specialist areas such as Mergers & Acquisitions Advisory, Fundraising, Transaction Support, Business Valuations and Litigation Support.

The Global Employment Taxes team have a worlwide network of clients and contacts and work with a broad spectrum of international businesses to provide valuable advice and services relating to overseas employment tax issues. Apprentices will take part in a tremendous training programme with the support of our very experienced team.

A career in Payroll truly is challenging and rewarding. With no two days the same, working in payroll is a motivating and stimulating career choice. Our team work in a fast-paced and buzzing environment and we are therefore seeking organised, deadline-driven, hardworking individuals to join us. AAB payroll trainees kick-start their career with our structured training programme and learning from our experienced team. From day one you will be an active member of the team, taking on your own responsibilities and communicating regularly with clients and colleagues.

The Business Advisory Services team at AAB provide proactive planning and compliance services for owner managed businesses from commencement to cessation. The joined up approach of accounting services, tax, VAT and planning solutions allows our apprentices variety and a wide range of experience in a busy and challenging team environment.

There are a number of professional qualification options available with the firm:

  • Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS)
  • Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)
  • Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT)
  • Association of Taxation Technician (ATT)
  • Chartered Institute of Taxation as a Chartered Tax Advisor (CTA)
  • Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP)

 

Study leave is provided and we will fully fund your training and exams for the first sitting.
Whilst you are training with us you will be supported by the entire team, including our dedicated Training and Development Manager.
We encourage our trainees to become all-round business advisors and so along with professional study we place equal priority on providing support to enhance the development of professional skills, including presentation, communication and teamwork.

 

Entry Requirements

We are looking for:

  • candidates who are passionate and enthusiastic about pursuing their career with AAB
  • minimum of ABBB Higher grades achieved at first attempt
  • National 5’s English and Maths at minimum grade B, or equivalent
  • Credit will be given to students who have studied Accounting, Economics and/or Business Management, or gained work experience in a business environment, however these are not essential requirements.

The most important part of our recruitment process is finding students who can demonstrate our people qualities. We assess all candidates who join the firm at any level against these values.

As we move forward into the future we are utilising more and more technology in the accountancy and business advisory industry, therefore a knowledge and interest in technology is desired.

Please note that for those applying in their 5th year of study or before they have received their Highers results, offers made will be conditional upon results received.

Successful applicants will begin their training with us during the summer.
