SECTORS/SUPPORT
All Sectors. Construction & Property. Professional Services.
USING AUDIT AS A FOUNDATION
“I see an audit as only the start of a process with our clients and not the end. It’s a foundation and a platform for me to be able to have conversations with clients about a huge range of areas in their business.
We use all the information and knowledge we’ve gained about a business during the audit process to transfer that into ideas for improvements. Working with clients that really want that advisory relationship beyond meeting their reporting obligations is what I really enjoy.”
HORIZON SCANNING
“One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is when I’m involved with clients that are working towards an ‘event’ in their business; it may be an exit, an acquisition, or a deal. Because we know so much about the client’s business, we really are in the best position to advise them on structuring and preparing for that event.
As an auditor, I’m not only focused on the current state of a business, but I always very much have in mind the future. It’s about looking at what’s on the horizon for that client and their company. It’s about understanding their strategy and their long-term goals and when I understand that I can use my knowledge gained from the audit process to really give that client extra advice.”
BEYOND AN AUDITOR RELATIONSHIP
“I see my role and relationship with a client more than transactional. With both the insight I’ll gain of a company and my experience of working with other companies, I’m able to challenge, as well as provide insight and advice. I always remember being told that a good advisor will tell people things that they don’t always want to hear. This is type of relationship I want to build with our clients.
If I’m working with an owner managed business that’s on a growth track, it’s often the first time they are going through that journey. Our team have supported many clients through that journey and that experience is invaluable to our clients.”
GIVING PEOPLE CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
“I’ve had the opportunity to transfer to Edinburgh and help to build the team and client base here. It’s been a really important and enjoyable part of my career development. I’m excited by the future growth of AAB because it creates those opportunities for the team to develop their knowledge and skills and fulfil their own career ambitions.
The growth of AAB also gives our team exposure to a huge range of sectors and clients. This means our people have a broad range of experience and it really helps to develop their skills and knowledge. Training and exposure to a wide range of clients is key to developing our people. I want my team to get the benefits and opportunities that I’ve had in my career.”
