“I’M AN EXCELLENT RESEARCHER.”

Rachael Denham is an Assistant Tax Manager in our Business Advisory Group team. Based in our Glasgow office, Rachael works to ensure that businesses, charities, and individuals are tax compliant, and provides advice on a range of issues.

APPROACHABLE, RELIABLE & PROACTIVE

“For me, an ideal relationship with a client is one that provides clear communication and reassurance that we will provide the best possible service. This helps to build good relationships and trust with clients, so they know they can rely on us.

I think clients expect an advisor who looks after their best interests, and will help them understand their circumstances. They also expect someone who is also approachable and reliable, and proactive.”

REALLY REWARDING

“For me, the most satisfying aspects of working with clients is learning about their different industries, learning about how their businesses work and how we can help. Knowing our work can really make a difference when it comes to saving tax for someone or for a business is really rewarding.”

VAST EXPERTISE

“AAB has a vast amount of expertise to tap into, which means our clients get a more rounded service that can cover all bases. Even if I don’t know the answer to something, or how to solve a specific problem, the chances are that someone on my team or in the wider Group will know, and will have an answer.”

PATIENCE & PERSISTENCE

“AAB has a reputation for being assertive, and I think we definitely exhibit that when it comes to dealing with HMRC and getting the best for our clients – patience and persistence are key.

Clients have thanked me for my perseverance with HMRC. Long wait times with HMRC often frustrate clients but they can rely on us to persist with contacting HMRC no matter how long it takes to ensure the client’s matter is dealt with.”

BALANCE

“Personally, when it comes to the use of communications technology, I prefer an equal balance between virtual and hands-on. Given the vast amount of deadlines in tax sometimes virtual routes are more efficient and time saving, but nothing compares to meeting clients in person.”

CONSTANTLY LEARNING

“Working in tax you are constantly learning and adapting with every change in legislation. No more so than in the recent pandemic. To ensure we were giving the client the best service, I immersed myself in the newly implemented government schemes and support and assisted our clients during this incredibly tough time.”

LEARNING & GROWING

“The vast amounts of expertise within the firm excites me as I know there is someone who will have the knowledge to assist with any queries. In turn it also gives me reassurance that I will continue to learn and grow within the business.”

RESEARCHING THE COMPLEXITIES

“The greatest strength that I bring to AAB is probably my researching skills. I’m an excellent researcher; if there is a particular tax point that needs looking into, colleagues will often ask for my assistance.”

THE ROLE OF THE TAX ADVISOR

“People often misunderstand the role of a tax advisor – they assume you collect taxes when it is in fact the exact opposite, we are here to ensure you pay the correct amount or indeed save taxes.”
