“GOOD ADVICE & EXPERIENCE COUNT.”

Ian McPherson is Director of our Oil & Gas Audit team. He specialises in Joint Venture & Contract Audit as well as Statutory Audit. Ian brings to the table a wealth of experience in the Upstream Oil & Gas Industry.

Based in our Aberdeen office, Ian has a key role leading our highly experienced Oil & Gas Audit Team and is responsible for matching the right team members and their individual expertise to our Upstream Oil and Gas clients to ensure they receive the best advice and outcomes.

TRUSTED, RESPECTED, GRAVITAS

“I’m really privileged to work with such a highly experienced team in this sector that support some excellent AAB clients. Our people are well trusted, have outstanding credentials in the industry and enjoy an excellent reputation in the sector. I’m proud to be a part of that and to have built our team, including recruiting such experienced and talented people into it.

Audit work isn’t all I do, I support our Virtual Finance Function, our Corporate Finance Team and work on special projects, such as finance transition. All of this is a route for me to put together the best team to help and support our clients.”

NOT JUST FINANCIAL, IT’S COMMERCIAL

“Within joint venture and contract audit, I love the fact that we go beyond traditional audit and reviewing transactions, I love getting into the more commercial part of the role. That’s what I find interesting. I approach audit as a commercial exercise. I work in an industry full of highly complex commercial agreements and the real value is understanding the detail of those commercial agreements.

I don’t deal solely with people in Finance, but also regularly with Commercial and Legal experts. We are always mindful that we are representing Partners when we audit the Operator or Contractor and therefore, we must strike the right balance in our questioning. A robust but constructive challenge.”

AN EDGE TO WHAT WE DO

“Relationships continue to be important in this business, but you can’t rest on your laurels, you must continue to deliver to clients. My attitude is very much a ‘can do’ one, if a client asks me to deliver something we may not have done before, then I’ll find a way to deliver it. I think we’ve got an edge in AAB of being able to ‘do’ things for clients and always deliver in a way the client wants.

I like to think that our strengths are our agility, our delivery, our communication, our listening, and that ‘can do’ attitude. I’ve learnt to apply these things across all my clients because of the experience I’ve had and the challenging projects I’ve worked on.”

DYNAMIC & AMBITIOUS

“I’ve been with AAB through a huge journey of progress and growth. The investment in technology, the ambitions and dynamic attitude of the firm fits with where I want to take this part of the business.

There are plenty of challenges in the sector especially around energy security and the energy transition and there is significant opportunity for growth in our sector for us and our clients and that continues to drive me and is why I enjoy my role so much.”
