More than just numbers

When I began my career in Corporate Tax, I quickly realised it wasn’t just about calculations and deadlines. It was about solving real problems for real businesses. There’s a lot of thinking involved, understanding what’s needed, staying on top of the rules, and helping clients make the right decisions. It’s a space where I can keep learning and growing, and that’s what keeps me interested.

Need to be hands-on

Over the years, I’ve developed a blend of technical knowledge and practical experience. I understand what’s required from a compliance standpoint, and I prefer to keep things clear and straightforward. I ensure my clients know exactly where they stand. I’m approachable, quick to respond, and always happy to answer questions, no matter how big or small. That’s how I build strong relationships with my clients.

Learning the right balance

“One of the biggest challenges for me has been managing work while studying for ICAS. It’s a tough balance, but it has taught me the value of good planning and staying organised. I’ve learned that everyone’s journey progresses at their own pace. What matters most is knowing your goals and remaining focused on what’s important. In a fast-paced environment like tax, that mindset is crucial.”

Clients come first

“For me, communication is everything. Clients want to feel confident that things are in hand, and they deserve to be kept informed. I don’t just reply quickly, I try to be proactive and dependable. Building trust is about being there when it counts and doing what you say you’ll do.

One project that stands out was during a busy compliance season. Instead of relying on emails, I visited the client’s office to address our queries in person. It saved time, reduced confusion, and helped us get through the work more smoothly. Even better, that face-to-face time helped us build a stronger relationship from day one.”

A team that’s got your back

“The best part of working at AAB is the people. I’m part of a team that supports each other, shares knowledge, and always steps up when needed. We tackle the busy times together, and that makes a huge difference. It’s a culture built on collaboration, and that’s something I value.

I’m also passionate about helping junior team members find their feet. I make it a point to be approachable and available. Whether they need advice or just someone to talk through a tricky bit of work, I’m here for them. Watching people grow in confidence is one of the most rewarding parts of my job.”

Keeping Up and Staying Ahead

“Tax is constantly changing, and that’s both the biggest challenge and one of the most interesting parts of the job. It’s not just about knowing what’s new. It’s about understanding how those changes affect each client and making sure they stay on the right track. I make a habit of reading up on the latest guidance so I can stay informed and keep adding value.”

Tax isn’t boring

“There’s a myth that Tax is dull. It’s varied, it’s complex, and it’s full of problem-solving. You’re not just crunching numbers; you’re working with laws, people, and strategy. No two days are ever the same, and that’s what makes it interesting.”
