“STANDING BEHIND YOUR NUMBERS AND BESIDE YOUR TEAM.”

Based in our Aberdeen office, Kris Cocker is a highly skilled Virtual Finance Function Manager working closely with a diverse range of clients across multiple sectors. From preparing management accounts and streamlining cloud accounting processes to resolving technical challenges, Kris ensures clients get the clarity they need to make confident decisions.

Having joined AAB straight from school, Kris brings a wealth of experience, a proactive attitude, and a personal approach to client support.

Beyond client work, Kris provides support to junior members of the team to help maintain the highest standards of service across every engagement.

BUILDING TRUST FROM DAY ONE

“I believe a strong client relationship is built on trust by showing you’re present, proactive and genuinely interested in their business. I like to make it a point to learn about the client beyond the numbers and take the time to understand what their world looks like beyond a balance sheet. One example that stands out was a client who was based in Norway, but despite the distance, we built a strong working relationship through open communication and consistently delivering what we promised. It’s a reminder that good services travel well.”

BUILDING KNOWLEDGE FROM THE GROUND UP

“Joining AAB straight from school meant there was pressure to get everything right, as I didn’t have the years of experience behind me. However, I put in the hours, asked questions, and made sure that whatever I delivered was of real value to the client or team. That mindset has shaped the way I work today. Now, I have a deep understanding of all levels of the client journey, from transactional queries to more complex challenges. It’s made me more confident, more capable, and more committed to helping others grow in the same way.”

DELIVERING UNDER PRESSURE

“Challenges will always come and go, but it’s about how we handle them that counts. One time, a client I worked with was transitioning to a bespoke accounting system and encountered integration issues, technical roadblocks and reporting deadlines. We remained calm, communicated transparently, and tackled each issue methodically, ultimately leaving the client confident and satisfied. It wasn’t just about solving a technical problem; it was about proving we could be relied on when it mattered. Alongside hands-on problem-solving, staying ahead of changing legislation is another key challenge, but regular training helps keep compliance on track.”

VFF IS MORE THAN JUST NUMBERS

“VFF can often be perceived as being solely focused on numbers, but there’s so much more to it! Yes, the numbers matter, but it’s how we explain them to guide decisions that makes the difference.

To do that well, I make it a priority to understand my clients’ businesses – how they operate, what their goals are and what challenges they face. That way, I can offer tailored advice that fits their unique situation. It’s about being a partner, not just a provider.”

TEAMWORK MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

“What makes AAB stand out is the collaborative culture. Within VFF and across the wider group, we all pull together to help clients succeed. Whether that’s tapping into tax expertise, tech support, or HR insights, we’ve got a network of brilliant people who genuinely want to help. Seeing our clients thrive thanks to that shared effort is what makes the work so rewarding. It’s also a great environment to grow in – being surrounded by talented, supportive colleagues pushes you to keep learning and improving every day.”

TRUSTED WHEN IT MATTERS MOST

“For me, my role is about being there, not just when things go smoothly, but when things get difficult too. Whether it’s helping a client through a system change or supporting a colleague on a tight deadline, I bring a calm and dependable approach that helps people feel supported and confident. I care about the work I do and the people I do it for, and I’ll always invest in our clients’ success.

My top strengths are my adaptability, strong work ethic, and approachability. I’m easy to work with and focused on building strong relationships, while also being confident enough to voice my opinion when I believe there’s a more efficient way of doing something.”

EVOLVING WITH PURPOSE

“One of the things I value most about my role is the chance to keep evolving. Being involved in AAB’s AI team has opened up new opportunities to explore how automation and smart tech can help us and our clients work more efficiently. I’m excited to dive deeper into this area by understanding the tools, testing their impact and finding new ways to free up time for more value-adding work.”

MOMENTS THAT MAKE IT WORTHWHILE

“One of the greatest compliments I’ve received came months after finishing an engagement, when a client got in touch unexpectedly to thank me for the impact I’d made. It reminded me why I do what I do, and how much those relationships matter.”
