Year-end corporation tax compliance. Tax planning. Advisory.

“Translating complex tax rules into real business results.”

Jessica Harrop is a Business Advisory Assistant Manager based in our Bolton office. Her role spans compliance, advisory work, and client engagement. She prepares and reviews corporation tax returns, researches complex technical queries, and delivers clear, practical solutions that meet the needs of a diverse client base. Her work also extends to tax planning projects, from group restructures to inheritance tax, capital gains tax, and personal tax advice.

With a natural aptitude for maths and a desire to combine structured learning with hands-on experience, Jessica began her career in accountancy through an apprenticeship route. This early decision set her on the path to a rewarding career in tax, where she continues to make a meaningful difference to the clients she supports.

Choosing accountancy

“As I approached my A-Levels, I knew I wanted to keep learning while gaining real-world experience. I explored apprenticeships and was drawn to accountancy. I’ve always had a strong aptitude for maths, and the mix of structured study alongside practical work really appealed to me. It gave me the perfect balance of academic learning and hands-on application, and it was the first step on my journey into a career in tax.”

Balancing my learning and my career

“The biggest challenge of my career so far has been completing my CTA qualification. The exams were demanding, and balancing them with a senior, full-time role required huge discipline. It was tough, but it taught me how to prioritise, manage my time under pressure, and keep focused on the long-term goals. These skills now play a part in everything I do, both for my clients and within my team.”

Taking the time to listen and learn

“I believe the key to a successful client relationship is spending time upfront to truly understand their business and their goals. Every client works differently, and adapting to their style is vital. Many of my strongest relationships have grown from taking that initial time to listen and learn. Clear, consistent communication builds trust, and from there, we can create solutions that are tailored, practical, and effective.”

Delivering value

“For me, the most satisfying part of the job is knowing that my advice makes a real difference. Helping clients achieve their goals in the most tax-efficient way is rewarding because I can see the impact it has on their future plans. Whether it’s easing a concern, reducing risk, or finding opportunities they hadn’t thought of, being part of that journey is something I find genuinely fulfilling.”

Every day is different

“One of the best parts of my role is the variety; no two days are ever the same. The mix of clients and challenges keeps my work engaging and dynamic. I also value being part of the wider AAB group. Having access to such a broad network of expertise means I can support clients with a huge range of queries. That collaboration allows me to deliver advice that goes far beyond my own specialist area.”

Giving clients peace of mind

“I recently supported a client who was worried about the size of their estate and the potential inheritance tax implications. They aimed to reduce their future tax liabilities while ensuring as much value as possible could be passed to their children. We explored a range of planning options, weighing up the inheritance tax savings against factors such as capital gains tax. Together, we identified the most suitable option and guided the client through the process. The outcome gave them peace of mind and reassurance that their estate was structured in line with their long-term wishes for their family.”

Nothing better than client recommendations

“The greatest compliment I can receive is when a client recommends our services to others. It’s a clear reflection of the trust they place in us and the confidence they have in the quality of advice we provide. That trust is everything; it shows that the time, care, and effort I’ve invested have truly made a difference.”

Seeing the bigger picture

“In tax, one of the biggest challenges is making sure every angle is considered. The most tax-efficient solution isn’t always the most practical or commercially viable. It’s about striking the right balance between minimising tax and ensuring the wider business objectives are met. I enjoy the challenge of looking beyond the numbers and finding the best overall solution for each unique situation.”

My greatest strengths

“My strengths lie in my organisational skills, enthusiasm, and commitment. I care about delivering consistently high-quality work and building lasting relationships with the people I support. Clients know they can rely on me, and colleagues know I’ll bring energy and dedication to the team. These qualities keep me motivated and make me proud of the work I do every day.”
