Based in our Edinburgh office, Jack Martin is a Corporate Tax Assistant Manager supporting a wide range of clients. From joining AAB for a university placement year to completing a professional qualification with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland, Jack’s passion for accounting and finance has remained strong throughout.
With a keen focus on tax compliance, international projects and advisory work, Jack plays a central role in delivering strategic, high-quality solutions for clients. His work involves reviewing corporate tax returns, liaising with overseas affiliates to manage cross-border engagements, and providing tailored advice to help clients navigate complex tax challenges. Jack also takes an active role in project managing multi-jurisdictional assignments, ensuring deadlines are met and outcomes drive value.
“I believe that the key to building strong relationships is by being yourself from the very start. I always take a personable approach when it comes to my clients, and I actively listen to understand what really matters to them from day one, because no two clients are the same and there’s no ‘one size fits all’ approach. Creating that early foundation of trust and approachability means clients feel comfortable opening up and view you as a trusted advisor who is always there to support them through not only the challenges they’re facing, but also their goals and successes.”
“One of the greatest compliments I’ve ever received from a client was when they told me I had explained a complicated tax issue in a way that was clear and easy to understand for a non-tax expert, and that’s exactly what I always aim to do. This not only helped them grasp a complex topic but also gave them the confidence they needed to make informed decisions moving forward. I find it incredibly rewarding to know that my ability to simplify difficult, technical concepts can truly make a positive impact on someone’s financial journey.”
“I would say that my strength lies in combining technical expertise with a people-first approach, as although we deal with the numbers, there are people behind those numbers. The knowledge I’ve gained through hands-on experience and professional qualifications means clients can rely on me to deliver accurate, informed, and personal advice. But beyond that, I’m approachable and easy to talk to, and I build close relationships that help me understand the real-world pressures clients face.”
“One of the biggest challenges in the corporate tax world is navigating the ever-changing international tax landscape. With businesses operating across borders, ensuring compliance in multiple jurisdictions, alongside UK requirements, can be complex, but is essential. I work closely with international affiliates to coordinate advice and manage risk, giving clients the reassurance they need, so they can make confident strategic decisions knowing they’re meeting obligations globally.”
“Something that I value about working with the team at AAB is the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues across different parts of the business. It’s rewarding to be part of a team where knowledge is shared, there’s no such thing as a silly question, and it’s helped me see how we can bring a broader perspective to the solutions we offer clients. I’ve found that one learning or experience from one of our other services can almost always be applied in my role.”
“Looking ahead, I’m focused on developing my client management skills while continuing to strengthen the technical knowledge I’ve built through my qualification‘s studies. I’m excited about how we can make better use of technology, especially AI, to enhance the way we work and provide clients with the information they need to make the big decisions, when they need it.”
