“IT’S GOOD TO TALK. GREAT COMMUNICATION REALLY IS THE KEY TO BUILDING GREAT RELATIONSHIPS.”

Based in our Bolton office, Hayley is the UK Senior Payroll Manager. With over two decades of experience and known for her proactive approach and exceptional attention to detail, she supports a wide range of clients across sectors, including family-run businesses, GP practices and larger corporates. Hayley leads AAB’s payroll service, ensuring payroll runs smoothly and compliantly. With a firm belief that great communication is at the heart of great services, she builds strong relationships with clients, makes things clearer and easier to understand and helps continue confidence in her team.

Beyond payroll, Hayley manages AAB’s Practice Support team. They handle key admin tasks like reception, billing, and onboarding, and she’s there to guide, delegate, and make sure they have the tools and guidance needed to perform at their best.

NO TWO WEEKS ARE THE SAME

“My role is incredibly varied, which is exactly what I enjoy about it. One week, I might be leading payroll processing, the next I’m resolving technical client queries or progressing internal payroll projects. Alongside this, I lead our Practice Support Team, so I’m constantly moving between hands-on delivery, strategic planning, and people management. It’s a fast-paced environment that brings fresh challenges every day, and that’s what keeps it exciting.”

UNDERSTANDING OUR CLIENTS FIRST

“Communication is at the heart of every long-lasting client relationship. When I start working with a new client, my priority is to build a strong foundation of trust. For me, nothing beats picking up the phone and having a real conversation. It’s about taking the time to understand their world, what pressures they’re under, what they’re aiming to achieve, and where we can step in to ease the load. That early connection sets the tone for a partnership that grows and delivers real value over time.”

RESTORING CONFIDENCE

“I once helped a client overcome issues they had with a previous provider. They were understandably anxious about their payroll being processed correctly. By taking the time to understand their concerns and putting clear, structured processes in place, we rebuilt that trust. It was rewarding to see them regain confidence in the service.”

COLLABORATION LEADS TO SUCCESS

“The best part of my role is the people. I love that every day I get to speak to different clients and help them through their challenges and be part of their journey. It’s always lovely to be thanked for doing a good job. That appreciation reminds me of the impact that the work we really have.

What truly sets AAB apart is its people. Since day one, I’ve been fortunate to work alongside talented, kind and collaborative colleagues. Whether it’s sharing ideas or offering support, there’s a genuine team spirit that underpins everything we do.”

NAVIGATING CHANGE

“One of the main challenges in payroll is the pace of change. For instance, when the pandemic hit, we had to deal with the changes in our personal lives while professionally navigating the unknown territory of furlough schemes and the CJRS. However, it taught us the value of teamwork, adaptability, and the importance of pulling together to find solutions quickly and calmly.”

MORE THAN JUST NUMBERS

“There’s a huge misconception that payroll is just about pressing a button. In reality, it’s a critical business function. When payroll goes wrong, the consequences can be serious. That’s why we put so much emphasis on accuracy, attention to detail and personalised support.”

ALWAYS LISTENING

“My greatest strength that I bring to the team is my approachability. I will always make time to listen to clients and colleagues, whether it’s simplifying processes or solving a problem. I’m always here to make things easier for everyone involved. There’s nothing more rewarding than hearing from a client how much of an impact I’ve made on their business. It shows how valuable good payroll support is, not just for compliance, but for confidence and peace of mind.”

TECHNOLOGY BUT WITH A HUMAN TOUCH

“I’m really excited to see how AI will shape the future of payroll. Automating repetitive tasks like data entry and reporting could save valuable time. However, I believe the human element will always be vital. I aim to strike a balance by using digital tools but prioritising face-to-face interaction, as building relationships and understanding people can’t be replaced by technology.”
