Foreign Income and Gains Regime: Everything you need to know
AAB / Our Team / David Carr
Meet the Private Client team
Sole traders. Partnerships. Cross-border directors. Cross-border workers.
Self-assessment. Partnership tax returns. Tax compliance. ROI advice. Capital Gains Tax disclosures. Tax planning & compliance.
David Carr is a Private Client Manager based in our Newry office, with more than three decades of experience advising individuals and businesses on a wide range of personal and partnership tax matters. He is responsible for the completion and submission of Personal and Partnership Tax Returns across both the UK and the Republic of Ireland, as well as Capital Gains Tax disclosures.
David leads on tax compliance, ensuring clients meet their obligations while keeping a close eye out for tax planning opportunities that may create value. David works closely with Business Advisory colleagues to deliver joined-up support across complex, cross-border matters.
“For me, the ideal client relationship is built on trust and communication. I want clients to feel they can reach out to me with any query, confident that I’ll take the time to listen, understand, and offer the most appropriate solution for them. I take pride in being that trusted point of contact – someone who is accessible, professional, and genuinely focused on what’s best for each client.”
“Clients expect a high level of professionalism and practical advice, and rightly so. But they also want to feel and be heard.
Every client’s situation is unique, and I make it a priority to tailor my support to suit their needs. Whether that’s explaining compliance issues in plain terms or exploring ways to reduce tax liabilities, I approach each client with care and attention to detail.
If I had to pick one quality that defines how I work, it’s being a good listener. Whether it’s clients or colleagues, people appreciate it when you genuinely take the time to understand their concerns. That’s how you build trust and deliver meaningful results.”
“One of the most satisfying parts of my role is the collaborative nature of the work I do, both with clients and colleagues.
Internally, I value the different opinions and insights that team members bring. It means we can explore solutions from all angles, providing the best service to clients. With clients, that same collaboration allows us to work toward the best possible outcomes, often uncovering opportunities that a more transactional relationship might miss.”
“My approach has always been about identifying what the client needs first, then delivering it in the most effective way possible.
Having worked with AAB for nearly 18 years, I’ve seen how a solutions-first mindset underpins everything we do. We’re not restricted by traditional boundaries often seen in our industry. We’re encouraged to challenge assumptions, and to deliver value in a way that truly supports clients’ individual needs.”
“I fully embrace both technology and traditional ways of working.
Technology has transformed how we serve clients, creating efficiencies and speed, but it’s no one-size-fits-all. Many clients appreciate digital processes and virtual meetings, while others still prefer a phone call or face-to-face conversation. For me, it’s all about being flexible – meeting people where they are and adapting how we work to suit them best.”
“Having spent more than 30 years in Corporate and Private Client Tax, including 13 years at a Big Four firm, I’ve seen just about every kind of tax scenario you can imagine. That experience means I can often spot issues, or opportunities, others might miss. It also puts me in a good position to support colleagues across AAB when they need a second opinion or specialist input.”
“What excites me most about the future is the chance to work with a broader range of clients and continue learning from my colleagues across AAB. I’m looking forward to playing a part in our continued growth and success.”
