Family Business: Why Family Business Succession Fails (and How to Fix It)
AAB / Our Team / Codi Brockley
Meet the Business Advisory team
SMEs. Family-owned businesses. Start-ups. Growing companies.
Year-end accounts preparation. Statutory filing. Corporate tax compliance & advice.
In her role as Business Advisory Assistant Manager based in our Bolton office, Codi Brockley supports clients by preparing year-end accounts, managing statutory filing, and handling a range of corporation tax queries, all within stringent deadlines. Known for her organised, client-focused approach, she brings clarity to financial reporting, helps clients stay on top of their obligations, and ensures nothing is overlooked. With experience across both accounts and audit, and having worked with a wide variety of SMEs, Codi combines technical skill with a calm, structured way of working that gives clients confidence at every stage. Her commitment to clear communication and practical advice makes her a reliable partner for businesses navigating the complexities of compliance and growth.
“For me, strong client relationships are built on two non-negotiables: clear communication and trust. I take time to understand each client’s business and their goals, and I always aim to explain things in a straightforward, approachable way. Being reliable and genuinely interested in their business helps clients feel comfortable asking questions and confident that I’m here to support them.”
“My work centres around making sure clients feel fully supported and in control of their financial responsibilities. Day to day, this means preparing year-end accounts, filing statutory accounts and tax returns on time, and dealing with corporation tax queries such as refunds, S455 issues, penalties and general tax administration. I enjoy taking what can feel overwhelming for clients and turning it into something clear and manageable. Whether it’s explaining a tax point, resolving an unexpected issue, or working through deadlines, I’m here to keep things moving smoothly.”
“One experience that stands out to me was when I stepped in to support a client on-site three days a week during a particularly challenging period for them. I worked closely with their financial controller on monthly management accounts and helped keep everything on track. The improved communication and hands-on support strengthened our relationship and showed the client they could depend on me when it mattered most.”
“The most satisfying part of my job is solving problems and giving clients clarity in areas they often find stressful. Helping small business owners feel more confident and in control of their finances means a lot, especially when it frees them up to focus on growing their business. When a client tells me, ‘You explained that better than anyone ever has’, I know I’ve made a meaningful impact.”
“My skills in financial reporting, tax compliance, and small business accounting, along with my experience managing client relationships, put me in a strong position to support my clients effectively. I’m naturally organised, which helps me manage tight deadlines and ensure no detail slips through the cracks. Clients rely on me to deliver accurate work on time, explain things clearly, and be someone they can trust to keep everything in order. That reliability helps give them the peace of mind they need to focus on running their business.”
“Working with a wide range of SMEs means no two days look the same. Having gained experience in both accounts and audit, I’ve worked with businesses across a variety of sectors, each with its own challenges, processes and priorities. This breadth of experience helps me adapt quickly, understand the pressures clients face, and tailor my advice to suit their specific needs.”
“I thrive in environments with lots of moving parts, especially family-owned businesses and SMEs where I need to keep track of every element affecting the client’s finances. My strengths include strong organisation, effective problem-solving, supporting junior team members, and managing multiple deadlines with ease. I’m committed to high-quality work, open communication, and always giving clients the reassurance they need.”
“One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced was balancing multiple client deadlines while managing, supporting and reviewing work from junior team members. At first it felt a little overwhelming, but improving my time-management skills and breaking tasks into manageable steps made a huge difference. Clear communication with trainees also became essential – ensuring everyone was aligned, supported and confident in what they needed to do. Through that experience, I learned the value of organisation, delegation, and staying calm under pressure. These lessons now shape how I work every day.”
“I first became interested in accountancy during college, when I spent one day a week gaining work experience at Barclays Bank. Combined with the apprenticeship events my college organised, it opened my eyes to the opportunities in finance and sparked my interest in a more practical route into the profession. That experience was the catalyst that led me to pursue an accountancy apprenticeship, and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made.”
“I take pride in supporting trainees and helping keep team morale high. Being part of a growing team within AAB means there are huge opportunities for development, collaboration and progression. I’m excited to contribute, continue learning, and build strong relationships across the wider organisation.
I’m keen to keep developing my client relationship skills and expand my own client portfolio. Building long-term relationships is something I value deeply, and I look forward to supporting more businesses as they grow and evolve.”
