“BRINGING STRUCTURE TO COMPLEXITY.”

Angela Winton is the Compliance Director based in our London Gatwick office, leading on compliance oversight, process development, and ensuring the business operates with clarity, consistency, and confidence.

Angela’s role involves staying ahead of legislative changes, refining internal processes, handling trading errors, managing complaints, and conducting advice monitoring. She also acts as a trusted point of guidance for the paraplanning team, helping them navigate complex situations with both technical precision and practical insight.

NON-NEGOTIABLES WHEN BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS

“When it comes to building relationships, whether with colleagues or clients, I start with active listening. It’s about truly understanding someone’s perspective before you respond. Mutual respect is a non-negotiable for me and is the foundation of trust and collaboration.

I’ve seen time and again that when people feel heard and valued, they’re more engaged and willing to work together towards a solution. That applies whether I’m working with advisers on advice monitoring or with a client to resolve an issue.”

SOLUTIONS THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE

“The most satisfying aspect of my work is seeing the tangible difference it makes for clients. Compliance might not always be visible to them, but when we solve a problem, whether it’s preventing an error from having an impact or finding a better process to protect their interests, it builds their confidence in us.

A recent example involved a complex advice case with multiple moving parts. By working closely with the adviser and paraplanning team, I was able to identify potential issues early, recommend adjustments, and ensure the final plan was both fully compliant and in the client’s best interests. It’s those proactive steps that give clients peace of mind.”

CHANGING PERCEPTIONS OF COMPLIANCE

“One of the biggest misconceptions about my profession is that compliance is the ‘business prevention unit.’ In reality, my role is to enable the business to move forward, but in a way that safeguards clients and protects the firm. We’re here to make confident, compliant decision-making possible.

That means explaining the ‘why’ behind the rules, not just the ‘what.’ When people understand the purpose behind a regulation, they see how it fits into the bigger picture and are much more likely to embrace it.”

BALANCING COMPLEXITY WITH CLARITY

“Compliance often involves navigating an ever-changing landscape of rules, particularly as legislation evolves. The challenge is balancing that complexity with a clear, structured approach that the whole team can understand and follow.

I focus on distilling the noise into what truly matters, so we can adapt quickly and effectively without losing sight of the client experience. My attention to detail and ability to get to the root cause of issues allows us to address challenges at the source rather than just fixing symptoms.”

A CAREER BUILT ON RESILIENCE AND SUPPORT

“Balancing the demands of building a career while being a working mum has been one of my biggest personal challenges. I’m incredibly grateful for the support from the team, which has allowed me to grow both professionally and personally.

That experience has reinforced for me how important it is to create an environment where people feel supported, no matter what they’re navigating in life. The genuinely caring and collaborative culture we have here is something I’m proud to be part of.”

LOOKING TO THE FUTURE

“I’m particularly interested in how AI and other emerging technologies can help streamline manual processes. If we can increase efficiency and reduce human error, we free up more time for strategic, value-added work, work that enhances the client experience and supports the business in a meaningful way.

For me, compliance is about more than ticking boxes. It’s about creating an environment where the right thing is always the best thing to do for our clients, for our advisers, and for the whole team.”
