“It’s about real outcomes for businesses & the people behind them.”

As an Assistant Manager in our Audit team in Leeds, Amiel Malundas supports managers and partners in leading and managing audits, as well as overseeing a small portfolio of clients. With over six years’ experience in audit, including roles in two Big Four firms, Amiel has worked with clients of all sizes across a wide range of industries.

Known for his calm, methodical approach, he is valued by clients and colleagues for his ability to deliver quality audits efficiently, while maintaining clear communication at every stage of the process.

Building trust through communication

“For me, strong communication is at the heart of a smooth audit. From the outset, I make sure clients are kept up to date on how the audit is progressing and informed of any issues as soon as they arise. Meeting deadlines is a given, but I also take the time to ask for feedback after each audit. This helps ensure that client suggestions are taken on board for future engagements, improving the process for them year after year.”

Changing the audit experience

“One of my most rewarding experiences was with a new audit client. We spent several weeks on-site, meeting face-to-face and having conversations beyond the formal audit scope. This helped us build a genuine relationship from day one, and the client commented that our audit was a marked improvement on their previous experiences. For me, there’s nothing better than a happy client and a happy audit team at the end of an audit – that is the end goal.”

Calm under pressure

“Deadlines are a constant in audit, and there are always multiple projects in motion at the one time. Clients have told me they appreciate my calm, composed manner, even when juggling several jobs at once. I believe that staying positive under pressure sets the tone for the team and helps keep everyone focused on delivering quality work.

Recently, a client encountered a technical issue during their audit. Working with our technical team, we quickly found a resolution and communicated the outcome clearly to the client. Being part of a collaborative, supportive team environment like this is one of the things I value most about AAB, and our clients directly benefit from this.”

Composed. Precise. Reliable.

“That’s the standard I set for myself on every audit, and the standard I aim to deliver for every client.”

Embracing change

“The audit landscape is constantly changing, with automation and AI becoming increasingly important tools. While change can be challenging, I believe in taking that first step towards adopting new technologies that make audits more efficient and effective, and ultimately, delivers value to our clients.”

Agile by nature

“My career started in the Philippines, where I studied accountancy and qualified before joining one of the Big Four firms. From there, I developed my skills working with a wide variety of clients and industries, something I still enjoy to this day.

Moving from the Philippines to Gibraltar, and later to the UK, brought professional and personal challenges. I had to adapt to new working environments, cultural expectations, and business practices, all while ensuring I delivered the same high standards my clients expected. While the fundamentals of audit are similar worldwide, the way you work with people, both clients and colleagues, can vary. This experience has given me the flexibility and perspective to thrive in different settings and deliver the best outcomes for every client.”

Breaking the audit misconceptions

“One common misconception I’d like to challenge is that working in audit means sacrificing your work-life balance. With agile and flexible working policies at AAB, it allows us to manage our time effectively, without compromising on the quality of our client service. It’s proof that you can deliver in a high-performing environment within your working day, and despite the multiple deadlines, have a work-life balance.”

A collaborative culture

“I’m committed to delivering quality audits and meeting client expectations. I thrive on building positive relationships, both with the team at AAB and with the clients we support. For me, success is measured not just in meeting deadlines, but in how smoothly the process runs for everyone involved.”

Looking ahead

“I’m eager to develop my skills in audit automation and AI, ensuring that we can offer clients the benefits of the latest innovations without compromising on quality
