“TAILORED SUPPORT THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE.”

Alix Baird is an HR Consultant based in our Edinburgh office. She specialises in providing expert advice on a wide range of HR and employment law issues, helping businesses to navigate challenges with confidence. Alix supports clients with everything from day-to-day queries and documentation reviews to complex people challenges, internal investigations and leadership training.

By working closely with senior management teams, directors and internal HR professionals in client companies, Alix ensures her guidance not only supports compliance but also aligns with a client’s unique culture, people priorities, and wider business goals. Her approach is based on building strong, trusting partnerships that add real value over time.

PUTTING CLIENT NEEDS FIRST

“The most rewarding part of working with clients is knowing I can genuinely make a difference. Whether I’m helping them resolve a difficult situation or shape long-term strategy, I love being able to offer solutions that are both practical and people-focused. Every business has different challenges and priorities, so I make it a point to really listen and understand their specific context.

Clients rely on me to be transparent, honest, and responsive. They want clear advice, realistic timescales, and the confidence that their people practices are in safe hands. When someone tells me I’ve helped them sleep better at night, or made their job easier, that’s when I know I’m doing my job right.”

BALANCING COMPASSION WITH COMPLIANCE

“One of the biggest challenges clients face is navigating difficult people decisions while wanting to ‘do the right thing’. I work with a lot of people-focused businesses, and they genuinely care about how their decisions impact their employees. That empathy is a strength, but it can sometimes make it harder to act when tough calls are needed.

My role is to help clients find the right balance between compassion and compliance. That means stepping back, seeing the bigger picture, and guiding them through the options in a fair, legally sound way. Even in the most sensitive situations, it’s possible to be both kind and clear. That’s the space I work in every day.”

A CONFIDENT, COLLABORATIVE APPROACH

“As an HR Consultant, it’s important to bring confidence to the table, especially when supporting clients through complex or high-stakes issues. But that confidence should never come at the expense of collaboration.

I believe in balancing empathy with clear, objective advice. I build strong relationships with clients, but I’m also not afraid to have challenging conversations when needed. The goal is always to support the client in a way that protects their people and their business. That might mean guiding a manager through a disciplinary process, helping rewrite outdated policies, or giving honest feedback about what’s working and what isn’t.”

TECH-ENABLED, HUMAN-LED SUPPORT

“Technology has transformed how we deliver HR support. Virtual meetings, shared document tools, and HR platforms allow us to be more responsive and efficient, which clients love, especially when something urgent comes up. But in-person interaction still plays a crucial role.

There’s real value in being on-site, seeing how a business operates, and having face-to-face conversations that build trust. For me, the sweet spot is combining the best of both, tech that makes our work smoother, and personal relationships that bring depth and context to what we do.”

LOOKING AHEAD

“I’m excited about continuing to grow my skills, take on new challenges, and support even more businesses in creating positive, compliant workplaces. I’m also looking forward to being part of AAB’s continued growth, contributing to our collective expertise and helping shape the future of our HR consultancy.

At AAB, every client is different, and every colleague brings something unique. That diversity of thought and experience is what leads to better outcomes. It’s how we keep learning, adapting, and delivering the best possible support.”

FRIENDLY, APPROACHABLE, AND HERE TO HELP

“One of my biggest strengths is being approachable. Clients have told me they find me easy to talk to and incredibly patient, which is so important in HR. People need to feel heard, especially when navigating difficult conversations.

My background as an in-house HR generalist gives me a well-rounded perspective. I’ve been in their shoes, and I bring that empathy and experience into every conversation. Whether it’s helping a manager through a tough situation or updating contracts for a fast-growing team, I’m here to support with professionalism, kindness, and clarity.”
