The government is to introduce a cap on the amount of income tax relief which can be claimed and we expect the relevant legislation to be introduced from 6 April 2013. The government has said that the intention of the restriction is to prevent taxpayers from claiming excessive tax relief and to ensure those on the highest of incomes pay a fairer rate of tax.
