Why Family Business Succession Fails (and how to fix it)
AAB / About / Our Team / Payroll & Employment / Chloe Glennie
Global Employment Tax Assistant Manager
Oil and Gas. Renewable Energy. Large Corporates.
Global Employment Taxes. Global Mobility. Social security. Expatriate Tax. Tax advice.
“Delivering cross-border compliance without cross-border chaos.”
Chloe Glennie is a Global Employment Tax Assistant Manager based in our Aberdeen office. For her, no two weeks look the same. A big part of her role is focused on foreign tax compliance across multiple countries, making sure deadlines are met and everything is handled accurately.
Alongside that, her role involves responding to client queries, particularly around sending employees overseas and what that means from a tax perspective. These can be complex, fast-moving situations, and that often involves working closely with our in-country partners to get the right answers and keep everything on track. Delivering the best service for our clients.
My career didn’t start in tax. I studied Law at university, but alongside that, I worked part-time in an internal finance team.
By the end of my degree, it was clear where my interests really were. I enjoyed finance far more, and with a bit of encouragement along the way, I made the switch. It’s a decision I’ve never regretted.
“I work mainly with large corporates, particularly in sectors like oil and gas and renewable energy. These businesses often operate across borders, which brings added complexity. My role is to help simplify that, making sure they stay compliant while understanding the impact of their decisions.
I’m used to dealing with questions that span multiple countries, each with its own rules and requirements. That means I’ve become very good at tracking down the right answers, quickly and accurately.
Whether it’s working through technical detail or liaising with international partners, I focus on giving clients clear, reliable information they can act on.”
“One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is handling urgent, complex client queries, especially when the advice could directly impact someone’s remuneration. That level of responsibility isn’t something you take lightly.
What I’ve learned is the importance of stepping back, assessing the full picture, and not rushing to an answer. It’s better to be clear about what we know, what we don’t, and provide initial guidance while we work through the details properly.”
“For me, strong relationships start with a conversation. Whether it’s face-to-face or virtual, taking the time to connect properly makes a huge difference.
Putting a face to a name helps build trust early and creates a more open, collaborative working relationship.”
“One relationship that stands out came from really listening to a client’s frustrations. I worked with them to shape a solution that met their needs, then made sure it was implemented smoothly behind the scenes. That combination of listening, delivering, and following through helped build trust. Once that was in place, the relationship became much stronger.
One of the most satisfying parts of my role is taking a complex issue and turning it into something clear and manageable. When a client comes to me with a challenge, and I can go back with a well-thought-out solution, along with practical steps to move forward, that’s when I know I’ve added real value and really helped to strengthen the relationship.”
“What stands out to me at AAB is the opportunity to grow, both personally and as part of a team.
I enjoy developing my own skills, but just as importantly, I value helping junior team members grow in their careers. Supporting others is a big part of what makes the role rewarding.”
“One of the best compliments I’ve received was from a client who said it was great to have me back working with them after some time away.
That meant a lot. It showed the relationship we’d built had real value, and that I’d made a positive impact.”
“Working across multiple countries means dealing with constantly changing laws and regulations. What works one year might not apply the next.
I stay on top of these changes so I can provide accurate, up-to-date advice and help clients stay compliant without unnecessary stress.”
