Are you looking for a great start to your career? Would you like to get involved in working with a wide range of clients across many sectors, providing awesome service, helping them to save money and grow their business.
What does my team do?
We have an extremely varied role within the Business Advisory team, which can be involved in anything from preparation of annual statutory accounts, monthly and quarterly management reporting, assisting with client outsourcing requirements, cloud accounting and VAT return preparation. The team also benefits from working closely with other service lines and having the opportunity to support clients across various sectors.
Why I love my job?
I enjoy the variety that comes with my role and the opportunity to work with such an extensive range of clients from different industries and backgrounds, as every day brings about a new challenge. I also feel very lucky to work with a great group of colleagues within the Business Advisory team, as this plays a huge part in my day-to-day role, and really is what makes the firm stand out in my opinion.
Emily Walton, Business Advisory Manager
We help businesses provide employee benefits to their staff. This can involve anything from setting up new pension schemes, through to being their insurance broker and helping with other benefits such Private Medical Insurance or Group Life Assurance. We help companies of all different sizes, from one employee, through to thousands.
We provide support and guidance that can actually save companies money, this tends to make us popular, and help builds long term relationships. The best part of my job is when I get to meet employees individually and help provide information they find useful for things such as retirement planning or looking after their families financially.
Richard Petrie, Employee Benefits Senior Manager
We work with companies of all sizes, from start-ups and family businesses to multinationals. This can involve supporting in the navigation of a deal, making a strategic acquisition or the selling of a business.
The varied nature of my work is something I enjoy, working with businesses of differing sizes, sectors and locations means two jobs are never the same. The job is also extremely social, being an inquisitive and people person goes a long way!
Sam Harrison, Corporate Finance Assistant Manager
We work with clients to support their Corporate Tax needs. This varies from Tax Compliance to Advisory work covering specialisms including International and Large Corporate, Innovation Tax and Expertise, Expertise to Entrepreneurial Taxes and Tax Audit. We work collaboratively across offices to service our clients who vary in size, background, and industry. With the breadth of areas we cover, every day is different.
Why I love my job
I get to work with amazing people who support my development in lots of different ways. I feel trusted to take initiative to accomplish tasks and I’m encouraged to work on my personal goals. I really like the flexibility we have and the modern attitude the firm takes to working. The office also has a great buzz and there’s lots of young people – so the social life is a bonus!
Emily Ross, Corporate Tax Assistant
We work with clients across all sectors advising and completing relevant reporting on all Employment Tax related matters. This can be ad hoc queries to full projects such as PAYE reviews. We focus on areas such as expenses and benefits, employment status and off payroll workers, termination payments, employment related securities. We ensure that our clients are compliant with ever changing legislation and that our clients understand any implications for both the Company and their employees.
The employment tax world is highly technical, no matter where you are within the team you are checking legislation and HMRC guidance every day! The real satisfaction comes from identifying efficiencies for our clients where we can see a real impact on our clients cash flows, time savings and their employee engagement. Our team has a variety of backgrounds, which is beneficial given the technical nature of our job, this allows for interesting discussions on upcoming changes and current processes, we also learn something new from one another regularly.
Claire Bruce, Global Employment Tax Assistant Manager
The indirect tax team at AAB serves our clients in the following ways:
AAB has a strong breadth of clients, so no two days feel the same. I love solving problems for our clients, getting to know them, their business, priorities, and challenges in terms of VAT. The connections and relationships we build mean that people come back to work with us because they trust us.
Christopher Scott, Indirect Tax Senior Manager
We work with innovative and ground-breaking companies to assess how their research and development work fits within HMRC’s R&D tax credit schemes, analysing how their financial costs mirror their technological developments, and how these costs fall within strict legislative qualifications.
We’re given a unique perspective on the inner workings of clients that is not usually provided through regular accounting work, getting to see the journeys taken by both start-ups and established companies as they create and develop new technologies from first principles to working prototypes and beyond.
Matthew Millyard, Senior Innovation Consultant
Our payroll team provide payroll services for a variety of clients. This includes calculating how much employees need to be paid, calculating how much tax and National Insurance needs to be deducted from their pay and reporting the details to HMRC. Payroll is a fast-paced environment, with no two days the same which makes working in payroll a motivating and stimulating career choice.
AAB has such a variety of services which really drew me in as I realised that no matter where I may start within the company, there will always be the chance for me to engage with something new. Being in a workplace like AAB has been a great place to begin my career as I felt I have always been supported, with the team really making sure I was understanding everything that was being introduced to me, regardless of how busy they may have been with their own work.
Robyn Anderson, UK Payroll Assistant
My team provides bespoke tax advice for individuals in all areas of personal tax. We specialise in several areas from international tax and globally mobile individuals to high-net worth individuals and IHT. We work on a large portfolio of clients across all our locations and assist them in terms of tax compliance, advisory and disclosure needs as well as end of year tax planning.
In Private Client, not two days are the same. I get to work in a collaborative team where client service is our number one priority, and I am pushed to develop my technical and soft skills daily. I have the freedom to form my own client relationships and lean on other members of the team for support when I need it. Everyone in my team is approachable and friendly which makes socialising with colleagues really fun as well.
Rebecca Morrison, Private Client Analyst
In VFF, we help our clients by providing an outsourced solution to meet their needs. Our team acts as our clients’ finance function, we carry out everyday accounts payable and receivable tasks such as invoice processing and payment runs as well as also preparing monthly management & year end statutory accounts for our clients. We have a wide variety of skills within our team so are also able to offer ad-hoc work which is mostly covered by our SFS (strategic financial solutions) team who focus on technical accounting.
I have been able to learn so much from the other members in the team which has furthered my development both in my job and with exams. The team are also great for helping me to achieve my goals and if I want to get involved in different work then they try their best to make this happen. There are also plenty of social events happening through the year which is great to get to know people across the business more.
Shaun Wilson, Virtual Finance Assistant

I really love meeting all our clients and getting to know them & their families personally, and even better is seeing the positive impact our advice can make on their lives. Straight away you feel like a trusted and respected member of the team, and I have a great variety of work which makes every day interesting. I also really enjoy the social side as there are plenty young people, and the firm encourages you to get to know members from other teams that you may not interact with in your normal day to day work.
