Meet the Business Advisory team
Owner managed businesses. SMEs.

Emily Walton is a Business Advisory Manager based in Aberdeen. Her role is varied and involves anything from the preparation of annual statutory accounts, monthly and quarterly management reporting, to assisting with client outsourcing requirements, cloud accounting and VAT return preparation. Due to the diversity of Emily’s role, she is able to work closely with our other internal service lines on a daily basis, such as Tax, Payroll, Virtual Finance and our Indirect Tax team.
She considers herself lucky to be able to work with a vast range of clients, allowing her to support businesses across various sectors which she thoroughly enjoys.
“I believe that communication is definitely key to building great relationships with our clients, whether that be face to face or over the phone. I feel that we can get the most from our clients, and that they can get the most from us when there is a strong relationship in place, as you would be surprised at what you can get out of what is meant to be ‘a quick catch up.’
I think it’s extremely important to get to know any client on a personal level also, whether it be checking in on what they have been up to at the weekend, or where their next holiday is. This really does allow for open and honest relationships, which is essential in order to fully understand and support our clients.”
“I personally find the most rewarding part of my job to be resolving issues for my clients, or even just being able to alleviate any concerns by having a quick conversation. Knowing that you have in some way, even for the most trivial cases, managed to support and achieve the best possible outcome for a client and their business is really special.
Aside from this, I love developing good relationships with clients and it’s great to know that I have achieved this when they feel that they can contact me at any time, no matter what the query.”
“The main thing that has stuck with me since starting with AAB, is that the firm really does have a great ethos. The Aberdeen office has always had a close & friendly atmosphere, and I suspect that the majority of our team would class each other as friends as opposed to just colleagues. As we are a training firm, it’s great to see new members of staff join the team each year and being able to see AAB grow.”
“I like to be challenged and would say that I perform best under pressure, which certainly suits my role at AAB and is one of the reasons I enjoy Business Advisory so much. I’m definitely of the mindset that no deadline is too tight, and that no request is too burdensome.
We are always looking to be proactive and to find the best possible outcome for the client, which often won’t always be the simplest route. I think this is what differentiates us from many firms, in that we won’t just strive to meet client expectations, we will look to exceed them.”
“Technology has definitely evolved and is becoming more essential for most businesses out there, and I would say AAB has managed to evolve in line with these advances in technology. We definitely do have a much greater reliance on technology, which is largely due to the growth the firm has achieved over recent years and now having offices spread throughout the UK.
The firm is always looking for ways to integrate the group as a whole, and I have been able to work closely with our Edinburgh team and clients in particular, which I thoroughly enjoy. Although we do manage to build great working relationships, even with remote working, I still feel that regular communication is necessary to ensure we maintain these relationships and are able to support one another.”
“I’m excited to be able to focus on supporting our junior members of the team and being able to see their development at the firm. As a former RGU placement student, it was not too long ago that I was in their position and was receiving the same support from the team which has allowed me to get where I am today.
I am also excited to see what comes next, as the firm is continuously growing, and this gives us the opportunity to work with new team members and new clients.”
