“I WANT TO BE A TRUSTED ADVISoR.”

Jakub Rolinski is a Senior Manager within our Audit team. Based in our Glasgow office,  he works predominantly with not for profit organisations, but also other clients that span a wide spectrum of sectors.

Audit is really the bare minimum of what Jakub does for his clients. He also supports them with a whole range of other accountancy services. In fact, whatever they need to keep their business or charity moving forwards. He’s genuinely here to help in any way he can.

BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS

“I don’t think I could provide an effective service without being interested in what my clients do. And I mean genuinely interested, not just pretend interested. It really helps if I know and understand their challenges and what they’re up against. I need to be on their wavelength and willing to support them all the way. I know there are loads of audit firms out there, but I doubt there are many that invest as much time in getting to know their clients as we do.”

DIGGING DEEPER

“Much of what I do is about challenging the facts. As an auditor, we need to apply professional scepticism – it’s a trait that’s instilled in the best of us. I know it’s my job to look at things from all perspectives and angles. So, every day I’m challenging things. I’m looking at things. I’m not taking things as fact just because I’m told it’s fact. If you’re paying for an audit service, you want it to be excellent – and that’s the kind of service I want to provide.”

HUMAN AND HELPFUL

“I hope people don’t have a bad perception of auditors. For me, it’s really not about the numbers, that’s just a by-product of what I do. What’s most important is building those human relationships, understanding what my clients are trying to achieve and helping them reach their goals.

If I can get to know my clients well, it’s easier for me to spot what support they need. So many of my clients do a lot of excellent work – and it feels good to know that I can play my part in really helping them along the way. Real value added support can’t be achieved by just staring at numbers and following a rulebook. It would be a shame to think that new clients who have received such poor service in the past believe that’s the norm.”

THE BEST COMPLIMENT

“When I became a manager, I obviously had to step back from doing some of the work on the ground and start focusing on building a portfolio of trusted clients of my own. As this began to evolve over time, I’ve had the opportunity to rekindle some of these early relationships. And it meant so much when one of them wrote to say, ‘Ah brilliant, that means we get to work with you again Jakub!’ It was great to read such nice things about me and my team. I mean, you can’t beat that really, can you?  Someone who doesn’t get paid to write nice things about you, writing them anyway.”
