“BEING RECOMMENDED IS THE GREATEST COMPLIMENT.”

Andrew Blair is a Senior Manager within our Corporate Tax team. Based in Aberdeen, he specialises in Innovations tax, including Research and Development (R&D) tax and Patent Box tax. He’s also an expert in Tonnage tax, International tax and Exploration and Production (E&P) tax.

While many of Andrew’s clients are from the oil and gas or shipping industries, he works with others in the not for profit sector, like charities, sports clubs and various associations. And with a portfolio of companies ranging from small start-ups to international groups, he just about covers all the bases. Luckily, his knowledge of corporate tax is just as broad and in-depth. Probably one reason why clients are so happy to recommend him.

COMMITTED TO AWESOME SERVICE

“I’m dealing with my clients’ money, so the advice I give has to be accurate and credible. I also need the finest attention to detail to help them stay on the right side of the law from a compliance and regulatory point of view. And when it comes to my innovations work, I’m basically here to help eligible companies access free money from HMRC!”

SHAPING THE FUTURE

“One of the most satisfying things for me is being able to help some really innovative companies thrive. When I help them secure grants or claw back funds through R&D tax claims, that money can keep a staff member on for another year. Or be the difference between them keeping the doors open on their business. Many of these innovations are great for the planet too.

I also find helping to train up and develop the next generation of tax advisers incredibly rewarding.”

A DIFFERENT BREED

“It’s the people that are different at AAB. I work hard, I know my stuff, I’m always professional. But I like to have a bit of fun too – and I think my clients appreciate that. You know, we’re just a bit more down to earth here. Just normal folk that people like talking to.

I think that approach really helps. I build close relationships with my clients – I enjoy getting to know them personally, as well as from a business perspective. And I think the work we do together is better as a result.”

OPEN AND TRANSPARENT

“For me, it’s crucial that I can build an open and honest relationship with my clients. We should be able to work together and not against each other, be responsive to each other. It should be a collaboration.”
