COVID-19 International Corporate Tax Filings & Payment Extensions

BLOG15th Apr 2020

As COVID-19 continues to have an impact across the globe and on the economy, it is also having an impact on completion of work within the usual deadlines. As companies are focusing on operational aspects of business, Corporate Tax Return filing deadlines and payments may not be at the forefront. Many tax authorities across the globe are starting to recognise the challenges of meeting ‘normal’ deadlines and have issued guidance on Corporate Tax filing and payment extensions. Outlined below are just a few examples of the changes made by selected countries already and these are being updated daily.

Denmark

The Corporate Tax Return filing deadline has been extended to 1 September 2020 from the normal deadline of 30 June 2020.

Qatar

The General Tax Authority in Qatar has extended the Corporate Tax Return filing by two months for the year ended 31 December 2019. The new filing deadline is 30 June 2020.

Greece

An extension for the filing of Corporate Tax Returns pertaining to records issued for February and March has been granted by the authorities, with the new deadlines now 29 May 2020 and 30 June 2020, respectively.

Netherlands

The Corporate Tax Return filing deadline has been extended to 30 June 2020 for periods to 31 December 2019, where the usual deadline is 31 May (i.e. five months after the year end).

Norway

There has been no extension granted to the Corporate Tax Return filing deadline of 31 May 2020, however, there should be no default penalty imposed for non-payment of tax or late payment of tax. Norway have an extension service available each year and by submitting a request with a valid reason, the filing deadline can be granted to 30 June 2020. This would need to be applied for and AAB can assist with this if required.

Saudi Arabia

The Corporate Tax Return filing deadlines have been given a deferral of up to three months along with related payments due.

Some countries may require formalities to be adhered to in order to secure an extension. If you would like AAB to look into a particular country for you to determine any filing or payment extensions or apply for these, please don’t hesitate to contact us and we can obtain the latest information for you.
