Why Family Business Succession Fails (and how to fix it)
AAB / About / Our Team / Tax / Emma Jones
Tax Associate Director
Family-owned Businesses and SMEs Across Various Sectors. High Net Worth Individuals.
Personal and Corporate Tax Compliance and Planning. Tax Advice on Corporate Transactions. Employee Share Option Schemes. Venture Capital Schemes. Research and Development.
"SUPPORTING CLIENTS TO ENSURE THEY STAY COMPLIANT AND MAXMISE EFFICIENCIES."
A Tax Associate Director based at our AAB Cardiff office, Emma Jones has an extensive background in Tax and supports businesses across numerous sectors with complex tax compliance and advisory matters. After qualifying as an ACA and beginning her career in Audit, Emma embraced the opportunity to build a career in tax and has been helping clients achieve their goals for over 20 years.
With a friendly approach, a caring attitude, strong communication skills and an eye for detail, Emma is dedicated to understanding the needs and objectives of clients to achieve successful tax outcomes.
Family-owned businesses.
“A week in my role usually involves working with numerous clients and working closely with the Corporate Finance and Legal teams.
My work spans both tax compliance and advisory services, ranging from Self-Assessment, to tax planning, R&D claims, employee share option schemes and transactional advice. This variety allows me to support clients across a broad range of tax matters and business needs.”
“I completed my ACA qualification whilst working in Audit. However, I always found the tax elements of my studies the most interesting. Tax was also often one of the topics clients were keenest to discuss, so when the opportunity arose to move into a tax-focused role, it was an easy decision. More than 20 years later, I’m still enjoying a career in tax.”
“Over the course of my career, I’ve embraced a variety of changes and opportunities for growth. This includes dealing with change, whether that’s systems and processes, technologies, the people in the team around me or the working environment.
Whilst change can be daunting initially and sometimes disruptive, I’ve learnt to focus on the positives that the change or changes bring for the longer term.”
“The greatest challenge I’ve experienced in my specialist area is keeping up to date with rules and legislation that are constantly changing. To overcome this, I use a structured approach that combines official sources such as HMRC, being a member of my professional body and attending courses and webinars regularly.”
“When building relationships with clients, I provide them with the highest level of service when it comes to tax support and guidance. By doing this, I hope they will want to continue the working relationship and recommend working with me to other businesses.
To ensure client relationship growth and continuation of working with clients, the high level of service includes keeping in regular contact with them and responding to their needs in a timely manner. This demonstrates clear communication, efficiency and trust.
The greatest compliment I’ve received from a client is that they enjoy working with me and, as a result, have recommended working with me to other business owners.”
“For me, the most satisfying aspect of working with clients is being able to help them achieve their business goals, whether that’s through providing simple tax planning or advising them when undertaking a transaction.
Being part of AAB makes that even more rewarding, as I have the opportunity to work alongside talented colleagues and support a wide range of businesses through tax advisory services.”
“The most common misconception about my profession is that a career in tax is boring. In my opinion, it offers variety, is interesting, rewarding and challenging due to constantly changing rules and legislation.”
“The top strengths I bring to AAB include friendliness, approachability, a caring attitude and an eye for detail. Additionally, I am able to multi-task and prioritise deadlines which my role involves daily.
Within my role at AAB, I am keen to develop these strengths whilst learning how we can adopt and use new systems and processes and technologies, such as AI, to make our work more efficient.”
