FINDING MY PATH
“I began my career in personal tax, working with business owners and individuals and helping them navigate complex financial and tax matters. That experience gave me a real insight into the pressures business owners can face and sparked my interest in the wider commercial issues affecting them.
I wanted to build on that experience and move into a role where I could support people more directly when they were facing financial difficulty. Restructuring and insolvency offered that opportunity. I find it incredibly rewarding to help clients understand their options, identify practical solutions and feel more confident about what comes next, particularly when the situation initially feels stressful or daunting.”
CLEAR FROM THE OUTSET
“For me, honesty is non-negotiable when building relationships with clients. Financial difficulty can be an incredibly uncertain and stressful experience, so I believe clients deserve clear and transparent advice from the outset, even when the message may be difficult to hear.
I focus on listening carefully to what is happening, explaining the position in straightforward language and making sure clients understand the options available to them. By setting realistic expectations and being open about the challenges, I can build trust and work collaboratively with clients and other stakeholders towards the best possible outcome.”
MORE THAN JUST ADVICE
“One of the most satisfying parts of my role is helping clients regain a sense of control. People often come to us feeling overwhelmed by financial pressures or uncertain about the future, and sometimes they have delayed seeking advice because they are worried about what they might be told.
Being able to sit down with someone, listen to their concerns and help them understand their position can make a real difference. I find it particularly rewarding when a client leaves a meeting feeling reassured simply because they have been able to talk through their circumstances with someone who understands them. If I can help take some of that burden off their shoulders and make the situation feel more manageable, I know I have added value.”
THE POWER OF COMMUNICATION
“A compliment that has particularly stayed with me is being told by a client that I am an effective communicator. Insolvency and restructuring can involve complex issues, but clients should not feel that they need to understand all the technical language before they can make informed decisions.
I pride myself on communicating clearly and efficiently, while also making sure expectations are understood. Whether I am speaking with a director, creditor, professional adviser or colleague, I adapt my approach to the person and the situation. Good communication helps build trust, keeps cases moving and ensures everyone understands what needs to happen next.”
A TAILORED APPROACH
“One of the biggest challenges in restructuring and insolvency is also one of the things I enjoy most: no two cases are the same. We work across a wide range of sectors, including construction, hospitality, technology, manufacturing, food and drink and energy, and each business brings its own circumstances, pressures and stakeholders.
My approach is to take the time to understand the business, its industry and the people involved before considering the most appropriate course of action. I have learned that there is rarely a one-size-fits-all answer. Being able to adapt, collaborate with others and understand the wider picture allows me to provide advice that is practical and relevant to the client in front of me.”
PRACTICAL SOLUTIONS
“The situations we deal with can feel complicated, but my focus is always on helping clients understand what can be done. I combine my experience across tax, restructuring and insolvency with a practical approach to problem-solving, looking at the individual circumstances rather than simply applying a standard solution.
Whether I am reviewing financial information, investigating a company’s affairs or working with stakeholders to progress a formal appointment, I want clients to feel that there is a clear path forward. My aim is to help people move from uncertainty to understanding and, ultimately, towards the best achievable outcome.”
PRESERVING VALUE
“There is a common misconception that restructuring and insolvency professionals only become involved when a business has reached the end of the road, or that our role is simply to oversee a business’s failure. In reality, our work is often about exploring the options available, preserving value and helping directors and stakeholders understand the best way forward in challenging circumstances.
Early conversations can be particularly valuable. Understanding the position, considering the available options and getting the right advice can help clients make informed decisions rather than feeling that they have to face difficult circumstances alone.”
WHY AAB
“What I value about being part of AAB is the culture of collaboration. Restructuring and insolvency cases often involve a number of different perspectives and areas of expertise, so having colleagues who can work together towards a shared objective is hugely important.
I bring strong communication, collaboration and an understanding of AAB’s culture and objectives to my role. I enjoy working as part of a team where people are willing to share knowledge, support one another and ultimately focus on delivering the right outcome for the client.”
LOOKING AHEAD
“Restructuring and insolvency is a constantly evolving area, so I am keen to continue developing my technical knowledge and understanding of the trends affecting businesses and the wider economy. I want to keep building my skills so that I can respond confidently to new challenges and continue providing practical, commercially focused support to clients.
For me, development is not just about technical knowledge. It is also about becoming a better communicator, strengthening relationships and learning from every case and every client interaction.”
MAKING A DIFFERENCE
“Ultimately, my approach is about helping clients navigate uncertainty with clarity, understanding and practical solutions. Financial difficulty can be daunting, but having someone who will listen, explain the situation honestly and work through the options with you can make a significant difference.
I enjoy the variety and challenge of my role, but what motivates me most is the opportunity to help people and businesses through difficult periods and leave them feeling more informed, reassured and confident about the next step. Helping clients navigate uncertainty with clarity, understanding and practical solutions is what my role is all about.”
