Miriam Grant is a Director in AAB’s Office of the CFO team, based in London. She oversees the team, the partners they support, and the systems and processes that keep the operation running smoothly day-to-day. Known for her curiosity, willingness to get stuck into whatever needs doing, and genuine care for her team and the businesses they work with. Miriam’s role is to facilitate her team so they can deliver the best possible outcomes for their partners, whatever that takes.

Learning the Business from the Inside

My background is technical, finance, spreadsheets, the numbers side of things. But what really shapes how I work is years spent inside startups, not just pigeon-holed in finance, but getting broad experience across operations. That taught me something you can’t learn any other way; how to rebuild a finance function from the ground up that works with the rest of the business, instead of simply patching the cracks in whatever’s already there. It’s a completely different mindset, less “fix what’s broken” and more “what would this look like if we built it right from day one?” That distinction matters more than people expect, because so many problems growing businesses run into trace back to foundations that were never built to scale in the first place.

Helping Businesses Thrive

I’ve seen firsthand what it takes to keep a growing business on its feet, through the messy middle stages as much as the wins, and I bring that experience to how I support both our team and our partners today. Nothing beats watching our partners’ businesses succeed and knowing our team helped get them there, whether that meant launching a new product, entering a new market, or simply getting the financial visibility they needed to make a big decision with confidence.

Built on Community

What makes our team special isn’t just the expertise, though there’s plenty of that. It’s the community. We genuinely back each other up, share what we know openly rather than guarding it, and show up for one another across every partner we work with. That collaborative spirit is what lets us bring the full weight of the team’s experience to bear on any single partner’s problem, not just whoever happens to be assigned to the account.

Finance as a Growth Driver

We work across a wide range of businesses where every challenge can look unique on the surface. But dig a little deeper, and most scaling businesses face similar challenges that show up differently depending on the industry or business model. A common misconception is that finance is a dull back-office function, something you deal with reluctantly and as little as possible. We show that with the right team, finance isn’t just overhead to be minimised; it’s a real growth driver, shaping decisions before they’re made, not just reporting on them after the fact.
