“THE CLIENT IS AT THE HEART OF EVERYTHING WE DO.”
David Dulieu is a Partner at AAB, based in Cardiff, where he plays a key role in supporting the continued growth of the Wales & South West region. Working closely with business owners, leadership teams, and entrepreneurs, David helps clients identify opportunities for growth, overcome challenges, and access the specialist advice they need to achieve their ambitions. Alongside his client-facing responsibilities, David oversees AAB’s Lead Generation team, ensuring businesses are connected with the right expertise across the Group to support their goals. Drawing on extensive board-level experience and a deep understanding of business growth, acquisitions, and succession planning, David brings a practical and relationship-led approach to every client interaction.
Supporting Growth Across the Region
“I’ve always been fascinated by business and the people behind it. What motivates me most is the opportunity to work alongside ambitious business leaders and help them navigate the challenges and opportunities that come with growth. Every business is different, and understanding what drives the people behind it is something I find incredibly rewarding.
My role within AAB combines regional leadership with client support. As part of the leadership team for Wales and the South West, I work closely with business owners to understand their ambitions, identify opportunities for growth, and help them access the expertise needed to achieve their goals. Whether that involves discussing succession planning, exploring growth opportunities, or helping navigate wider business challenges, my role is about ensuring clients receive the right advice at the right time.”
CLIENT FOCUSED SOLUTIONS
“Alongside this, I oversee AAB’s Lead Generation team. The team plays an important role in helping new and existing clients navigate the breadth of expertise available across the Group. One of the most satisfying aspects of my role is helping businesses find the right specialists to solve a challenge, unlock growth, or support a key decision. The strength of AAB lies in the breadth of expertise we can offer, and ensuring clients can access that expertise efficiently is a key part of what I do.
Having held Board-level positions in businesses that have scaled, acquired other companies, and planned for succession, I understand first-hand the realities of running and growing a business. Balancing day-to-day operations while planning for the future is rarely straightforward, and that practical experience allows me to relate closely to the challenges many business owners face.”
Making a Positive Impact
“One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is helping business owners move from uncertainty to clarity. Many clients know they want to grow, sell, acquire, or plan for succession, but often need support understanding the options available to them and how best to achieve their objectives. Being able to guide them through that process and see the results come to life is incredibly rewarding.
In particular, I find succession planning especially satisfying. Helping a business owner understand the most suitable route forward and then assembling the right advisory team to deliver that outcome allows them to move into the next chapter with confidence. Seeing years of hard work rewarded through a successful outcome is something I never take for granted.
I also enjoy helping businesses translate advice into action. Recently, I worked with a start-up business that needed support understanding how professional advice could be turned into practical next steps. By helping them break down the process and focus on clear actions, they were able to move forward with confidence and momentum.”
Commitment & Dedication
“For me, every successful client relationship begins with understanding. While many businesses face similar challenges, the impact of those challenges can vary significantly depending on the people involved, the stage of the business, and the wider objectives they are trying to achieve. That’s why I always start by listening.
I focus on understanding what the client does, what they want to achieve, and what success looks like from their perspective. Only then can advice be tailored in a way that is genuinely valuable. Generic advice rarely creates exceptional outcomes; understanding the individual behind the business is what allows meaningful solutions to be developed.
One of the most meaningful pieces of feedback I’ve received from a client was simply: “You just got me.” To me, that captures the essence of what good advisory support should be. Before you can solve a problem, you need to understand both the commercial challenge and the personal motivation behind it.”
A Compassionate Approach
“One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned throughout my career is that every client is different. There is rarely a single correct answer or a perfect solution. The ability to understand different perspectives, adapt your advice, and remain flexible is essential when supporting businesses through important decisions.
My experience has taught me that the most successful outcomes are achieved when advisers focus on people first. While transactions, growth plans, and strategic decisions are important, understanding the ambitions, concerns, and priorities of the individuals involved is often what makes the greatest difference. Building trust takes time, but when clients begin to view you as part of their team, that is when the strongest relationships are formed.”
Tackling the Challenges
“One of the biggest misconceptions about the advisory profession is that all advisers are the same. In reality, the value an adviser brings comes from their ability to understand a client’s specific circumstances and apply knowledge, experience, and expertise in a way that is relevant to their situation. The best advice is never generic; it is tailored to the individual business and its objectives.”
LOOKING AHEAD
“Technology is continuing to transform the way businesses operate, and AAB has embraced this by investing in best-in-class systems and solutions. Looking ahead, I’m particularly interested in seeing how artificial intelligence continues to shape both business and advisory services. While technology can create significant efficiencies, the real value will come from those who use it intelligently and apply it in ways that genuinely benefit clients.
Ultimately, my role is about helping businesses access the right advice, make informed decisions, and achieve their ambitions. Whether supporting growth, succession, or strategic change, I believe the best outcomes are achieved when the client remains at the centre of every decision we make.”
