“I’M DRIVEN TO EXCEED EXPECTATIONS.”

Jarlath Devlin is a Senior Manager within the Private Client team. Based in our Dungannon office, Jarlath’s specialism lies within Trusts and estates with a particular focus on Inheritance Tax.

Jarlath provides clients with advice on their potential exposure to Inheritance Tax and offers mitigating solutions to help reduce that exposure. He completes and submits Returns for Death estates, deals with follow up questions from HMRC, and examines Wills and makes recommendations for alternative/additional wording.

The importance of trust

“My ideal relationship with a client is one based on mutual trust. Inheritance Tax is a highly personal and sensitive matter, so it’s really important for me to build trust with my clients. I want my clients to feel comfortable to have open and honest conversations with me, and know that I’m just a call away if they ever need to ask a question or discuss any concerns they might have.

Similarly, building trust between colleagues at work is also really important. I believe that strong working relationships with colleagues is conducive to a positive working environment. The ability to draw upon the abundant wealth of expertise from within the company, allows us to provide clients with desirable and cost-effective outcomes.”

We are challengers

“At AAB we have a culture that is both supportive and challenging. Having acquired so many amazing businesses, our workforce has now become diverse with a variety of different specialisms and levels of experience. We understand that a one size fits all approach is never a solution.  Having a diverse workforce challenges us all to open up our minds to harness the myriad of opinions, skills and experience. I believe it is this diversity in expertise and eagerness to challenge that truly makes us unique within the market.”

Giving you peace of mind

“I have over 35 years’ experience working within the Inheritance Tax Compliance Team for HMRC. Having worked within such a high-profile Public-Sector team for so long I’ve developed a deep understanding of the responsibilities and obligations required by HMRC. Drawing on my experience, I advise my clients on best practice and help them get things right first time, saving them both time and money.

Additionally, my specialist area requires a high degree of sensitivity at all times as many of my clients are grieving following the loss of a much-loved family member. Many years of experience within this sector of taxation has helped me to develop both a professional yet empathetic approach towards my clients.”

A tech-enabled approach

“In a fast-paced and ever-changing hi-tech landscape, we must aim to be at the forefront of technology, empowering our people to provide, deliver and maintain the service our clients have come to expect. Many prefer to meet personally; others prefer to be contacted virtually whether that is by telephone or a Teams call. While I fully embrace the flexibility that virtual meetings offer to us, I believe there will always be a place for in-person meetings. Since my specialist area is highly personal, meeting face to face with my clients is essential to build trust and foster a deeper connection. Ultimately, it comes down to striking a balance to meet my client’s needs whether they prefer meeting virtually or in-person.”

Evolving & Growing

“AAB are evolving at an extraordinary pace within the world of taxation and finance. As an organisation that is both client-centric and ambitious, I believe we have the drawing power to not only attract a whole new client base but also a workforce fully equipped to provide our clients with an exceptional service.

By amalgamating with the best, AAB has made significant strides in becoming the market leader in the accountancy and financial sector.”
