“My goal is to ensure the best possible outcome.”

Susan Mackrell is a Restructuring & Recovery Manager based in AAB’s Glasgow office. As a key liaison for employees facing liquidation, Susan’s role requires a high degree of empathy and understanding. She is deeply committed to ensuring that employees are supported throughout the liquidation process, helping them navigate the emotional and financial complexities that come with it. With each case presenting unique challenges, Susan’s expertise shines as she balances the needs of employees, government agencies, and stakeholders.

Every day in Susan’s role brings something different. One moment she may be responding to personal queries from employees affected by insolvency, and the next, she could be addressing questions from HMRC or dealing with government enquiries. Her ability to pivot between these diverse responsibilities with flexibility and a problem-solving mindset is critical to her success in the dynamic world of restructuring and recovery.

Guiding People Through Tough Times

“I often find myself supporting and guiding people through what can be the most difficult time in their lives. It’s a highly volatile and stressful period for them, and they might feel as if there’s no light at the end of the tunnel. That’s where I step in – to offer them support, guidance, and peace of mind that they are not alone. I’m their key point of contact, always available to answer questions, provide clarity, and calm their fears. My goal is to ensure the best possible outcome for them, and there’s nothing more satisfying than helping people achieve what they rightfully deserve.

Changing the Perception of Insolvency

“Insolvency is often seen as the ‘black sheep’ of accountancy, and that’s a perception I’m passionate about changing. While the work can be challenging, it’s also incredibly rewarding. It’s not just about numbers; it’s about people and the emotions involved. I make it a priority to approach each case with care, sensitivity, and a calm, approachable attitude, ensuring that I can support people with the respect and understanding they deserve.”

Working with an Exceptional Team

“I’m extremely fortunate to work with an amazing team here at AAB. The work ethic is outstanding, and the team morale is something I truly value. Starting a new role can be intimidating, but from day one, I felt welcomed and supported. Everyone here genuinely wants to see you succeed. Being able to share knowledge and experience with my colleagues ensures that we are continuously growing and delivering the highest level of service to our clients.”

Virtual Support Without Boundaries

“One of my favourite aspects of the role is that I get to work virtually with clients. There are no barriers in place thanks to technology, so we can offer high-quality support no matter where our clients are based. I’m proud of how we’ve embraced tech to ensure that our services are not only efficient but also accessible to everyone who needs our help.”

Part of AAB’s Exciting Growth

“AAB is on an exciting journey right now, with the firm constantly expanding and adding new service lines. It’s inspiring to be part of such a forward-thinking group. I’m surrounded by experts in their fields, which means that if I ever need advice or a different perspective, there’s always someone I can turn to. This environment of collaboration and shared expertise pushes us all to provide the best outcomes for our clients.”

Shaping a Unique Role

“My role is the first of its kind at AAB, and that’s something I’m really excited about. It gives me the opportunity to shape the role and make it my own, all while delivering a high level of service to those who need it most. I’m passionate about continuing to grow in this role and being a trusted advisor to the people I work with.”

Driven by Empathy and Organisation

“At my core, I’m a people person. This role is a perfect fit for me because it allows me to support others in a meaningful way. My ability to be empathetic, sympathetic, and organised ensures that I can deliver for my clients every time. It’s what drives me to provide the best service possible, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to make a positive impact on people’s lives.”
