“I love it when my clients see me as approachable”

Ross Parsler is a Senior Manager within our Innovation Taxes team, working remotely to support SMEs and start-ups in maximising opportunities for R&D tax claims. His expertise lies in collaborating closely with clients, both those with full-service engagements and those focused solely on R&D, ensuring they are supported throughout the claims process. By partnering with clients’ existing accountants, Ross helps ensure compliance while uncovering opportunities that might otherwise be missed.

In addition to his work with R&D tax credits, Ross is a key driver in business development and plays a pivotal role in enhancing AAB’s reputation as a centre of excellence in innovation taxes. His efforts are directed towards refining best practices and promoting growth in this highly specialised field, enabling AAB to maintain its position as a leader in the industry.

It’s important to be approachable and available

“For me, a strong client relationship is built on frequent communication, not just at the year-end but throughout the year. I want my clients to feel confident coming to me before making significant decisions, particularly around R&D, where one small change could have unforeseen consequences. By establishing open lines of communication from the start, I’m able to develop trust quickly, and I love it when my clients see me as approachable and available when they need guidance.”

Getting to know our clients’ business

“One of the things I enjoy most is getting to know my clients’ businesses. Understanding their operations is essential for spotting potential R&D opportunities and ensuring that we’re maximising their claims. The breadth of innovation in R&D means there’s always something new to uncover, and by building deep relationships with clients, I can ensure they understand exactly what we’re doing and why. It’s all about transparency – when a client knows what to expect, they can trust that they’re submitting a credible and valuable claim.”

Watching people grow professionally

“The most rewarding aspect of working within a team is seeing others progress. I always strive to be available for my colleagues as they navigate their professional journeys. There’s a lot of joy in watching team members gain confidence, challenge opinions, and develop their ways of working. It reminds me that learning never stops, no matter where you are in your career.”

Keeping clients compliant

“R&D awareness has grown dramatically over the last few years, largely due to information being more accessible online, though not always accurate. My role is to cut through the noise and reassure clients that as long as they’re working with a professional advisor, the process should be straightforward. We must submit robust claims that meet HMRC’s guidelines, anticipate any potential queries, and maintain the trust we’ve built with clients.

As R&D is constantly evolving, we must stay ahead of any updates to ensure our clients are always in compliance. The complexity of the rules can be challenging, but that’s where our expertise comes in – we help navigate these shifts, so our clients don’t have to worry. Taking the technical jargon and explaining how that might affect their business and their goals.”

Delivering best-in-class service

“My energy and enthusiasm are some of my greatest strengths, and I bring that into every client interaction. I’m always eager to engage with people, and I’m passionate about ensuring that everything we do is top quality. I take pride in delivering best-in-class service, and it’s immensely rewarding when clients not only stay in touch after I’ve moved roles but actively seek to continue working with me and even recommend me to others.”

We have an ethos of positivity, enthusiasm and fun

“I joined AAB, as the firm is experiencing an incredible period of growth, and it’s exciting to be part of that ongoing journey. AAB’s ethos of positivity, enthusiasm, and fun resonates with me. We work hard, but we also know how to enjoy what we do, and that’s reflected in how we collaborate and support one another. Being surrounded by a team that is passionate about innovation and delivering the best service possible is incredibly motivating.

I’ve heard the old stereotype that accountants and tax advisors aren’t particularly dynamic or social, but that couldn’t be further from the truth, especially at AAB. There’s a fantastic vibe across the firm, with plenty of outgoing, friendly people who are always up for a chat. We’ve evolved a lot over the years, and bringing in fresh talent through graduates and school leavers has helped us stay current and maintain that energy.”
