“I’m focused on driving positive change for the team”

Morgan Basnett is a People & Culture Co-ordinator at AAB, based in the Leeds office. As part of our People & Culture team, she plays a key role in supporting the HR helpdesk and delivering projects that enhance employee experience across AAB.

With a passion for process improvement and a keen eye for efficiency, Morgan is dedicated to refining HR operations to create a seamless and positive workplace environment for the team.

Supporting Our People Across the Business

I work with all business units across AAB, supporting employees and contributing to key projects that help drive improvements within the People & Culture function. My role is incredibly varied—one moment, I might be responding to a HR query, while the next, I’m working on a process enhancement that will make life easier for both employees and the wider team.

What I enjoy most is the opportunity to collaborate with different people across the business. Building relationships is a huge part of what I do, and I love being a trusted point of contact when colleagues need advice, support, or just a friendly chat. When people feel confident that they have the right support behind them, they can focus on what they do best—and that’s where I feel I add real value.”

Creating a Workplace Where People Thrive

“My job is all about helping people succeed, and that’s incredibly rewarding. Whether it’s providing HR guidance, improving internal processes, or supporting strategic People & Culture initiatives, everything I do is focused on making AAB a great place to work. While I’m not in a client-facing role, with the right support from the People & Culture team, we can help colleagues in client-facing roles excel. I want the team to feel empowered to take ownership of their development knowing that AAB are right behind them.

HR can sometimes be seen as the department people only deal with when something goes wrong, and I want to change that. I want employees to feel comfortable reaching out to us at any time, not just during onboarding or when they need help. My goal is to ensure that every experience with HR is a positive one, where people feel listened to, supported, and valued throughout their entire journey at AAB.”

Challenging the Status Quo

“I believe that asking ‘why?’ is one of the most powerful ways to drive change, I’m not afraid to ask the difficult questions. Just because something has always been done a certain way doesn’t mean it’s the best way. I’m always looking at processes with fresh eyes and asking, ‘Is this the most effective way to do things? Can we make this better?’

For me, problem-solving isn’t just about fixing things when they go wrong—it’s about proactively identifying opportunities to improve. I love working in an environment where new ideas are encouraged, and where positive change is seen as an opportunity rather than a challenge. The more we question and refine, the more time we free up to focus on what truly matters—supporting people and delivering the best service possible.”

Balancing Technology with the Human Touch

“Technology has transformed the way we work, and I fully embrace the benefits it brings in terms of efficiency, accessibility, and automation. But I also believe that no amount of technology can replace the value of real human connection.

Some people prefer digital solutions, while others thrive on face-to-face interaction, and I think it’s important to strike the right balance. By using technology in a way that enhances—not replaces—personal engagement, we can create a workplace that works for everyone. At the end of the day, HR is about people and making sure they feel supported in a way that suits them best.”

Looking Ahead

“AAB’s ambition for growth is incredibly exciting, and I love being part of a team that is constantly evolving. I’m looking forward to continuing my Improvement Practitioner Apprenticeship, which is helping me sharpen my problem-solving and critical thinking skills. As AAB expands, I’m excited to apply these skills to enhance our processes, drive meaningful change, and make a lasting impact on the way we support our people.

One of the best compliments I’ve received was during my very first week at AAB when I was praised for hitting the ground running and delivering high-quality work straight away. Knowing that my contributions make a difference from day one is what motivates me every single day.”
