ESG Diligence: The Key To Sustainable M&A Transactions
AAB / Our Team / Lizzie Roberts
Meet the Audit & Assurance team
Small to medium owner-managed businesses.
Audit services. Preparing year-end statutory accounts. Working with clients to achieve their goals.
Technology. Business Services. Property & Construction. Manufacturing.
Lizzie Roberts is a Senior Manager in our dedicated Audit team. Lizzie works hard providing all manner of audit services, preparing year-end statutory accounts, and working with clients throughout the year to achieve their goals.
With a wide variety of clients in different sectors, on any given day Lizzie could be working on audits and accounts, dealing with business owners’ tax queries, and generally being available to support clients with financial decisions. She aims to be approachable to clients so they can lean on her for support and advice; if she does not know the answer, she will always help them find the person who will. Lizzie also likes to get involved in developing and sharing her knowledge with the team and helping to train the more junior members.
“The best client relationships are the ones where you’re able to get to know them, not just as clients, but on a more personal level. It’s great when you have mutual interests you can talk about and use as a basis to build a rapport. Trust is also key; once a client has gained our trust, that is when we can really add value and support their business needs.”
“Clients expect efficient, high-quality audit services and continuous support throughout the year for whatever their business needs may be, and we always make sure we are providing this.”
“I find it satisfying when clients can lean on me as a general advisor to provide them with business support, as opposed to just being seen as someone who will provide them with an annual audit service. I love it when we can save a client money or provide them with advice to help their business run more effectively. It’s great that a lot of my clients have been with us for years; there are many jobs that I started working on as an assistant that I now manage, and I am the key contact in supporting their business needs.
I definitely get satisfaction out of helping people, that being both clients and team members. As someone who started as an assistant, I know how important it is to offer new starters our support so they have the confidence they need to learn and develop. I think that’s what sets us apart from other firms, there will always be support available when we need it.”
“It’s important that we keep up with tech as it’s constantly changing, and there are always new ways our clients can use tech to improve their business. However, most of our audit clients like the ‘hands-on’ approach and get a lot out of meeting with us in person.”
“Bringing in change to audit processes and testing on clients we have had for years can sometimes be a challenge as they get used to the way we operate, but we have to adapt both to improve efficiencies and to keep up to date with the auditing standards.”
“The network that is now available as a result of the merger is going to bring lots of opportunities. I love meeting new people and it’s great having different teams with specialist knowledge readily available that can help our clients without having to look for external contacts.”
“It’s one of the AAB Group Values, but it’s genuinely important to me too that we have an ethos of positivity, enthusiasm, and fun. Working in a positive and enthusiastic environment around like-minded people who are always willing to offer their support makes the work we do far more enjoyable.”
“I like to think of myself as a team player, hardworking and efficient, as well as being sociable and approachable.”
“A client recently told me that they were impressed with how efficient I am and that I stick to my word. If there is a deadline to work towards, I will do all I can to ensure that it is achieved as efficiently and in as stress-free a manner as possible.”
“Every day is different; auditors do far more than simply audit. Whilst the numbers are important, the people skills needed in managing your clients are just as important, if not more. It’s a very sociable career to have.”
