“I firmly believe that trust is the foundation of successful partnerships”

Linda Macarthur is a Virtual Finance Function Assistant Manager based in our Aberdeen office. She supports a wide range of clients by providing accountancy services, enabling them to focus on the day-to-day operations of their businesses. With a diverse client base, no two days are the same for Linda—whether she’s preparing management accounts or summarising reports for key meetings, her focus remains on delivering exceptional results. Linda’s passion for client success drives her to go above and beyond in every interaction, helping businesses achieve their goals with tailored financial support.

In her role, Linda collaborates closely with various teams within AAB, including Global Employment Taxes, Payroll, and Indirect Tax. This collaborative approach allows her to offer clients a comprehensive and high-quality service that addresses their needs from multiple angles, ensuring they receive well-rounded support at every stage of their business journey.

Relationships with trust at their core

“Building relationships of trust with my clients is at the heart of everything I do. I firmly believe that trust is the foundation of successful partnerships, and I strive to cultivate that from day one. Clear and honest communication is key—by setting expectations and deadlines together, we ensure that everyone involved knows their role and what’s expected of us. This transparency helps clients see that we’re not just capable of doing the job, but that we’re committed to going above and beyond. My goal is always to exceed expectations and deliver results that show I’m invested in their success. It’s about creating long-lasting relationships based on reliability and dedication.

Removing burdens

“It’s incredibly satisfying to see the impact of lifting the financial burden off my clients. When we take care of the numbers, they can focus on growing and managing their businesses. Finances play such a crucial role in everything they do and knowing that it’s being handled gives them the freedom to direct their energy elsewhere. Being part of their success story is one of the most rewarding aspects of my role.”

Disruptive for the right reasons

“I’m not afraid of updating or renewing processes. Just because something’s been done a certain way for years doesn’t mean it’s the best or only way to do it. While change can be disruptive at first, it’s so worth it when the outcome leads to better efficiency and frees up more time for everyone. I’m always looking for ways to improve our workflows to benefit both the team and our clients.”

Invaluable resource

“Many of my clients aren’t based in Aberdeen, so I understand how valuable in-person meetings can be in building relationships. I believe that face-to-face interactions, especially at the beginning, lay the foundation for trust. After that, we can leverage technology to maintain those relationships, bridging any gaps caused by distance. However, I cannot deny the impact technology has in making it easier to offer ongoing support no matter where our clients are located. We can easily jump on a call or send a quick email which, when we work in different countries and time zones is an invaluable tool we can utilise.”

Support from the wider team

“Collaboration is our superpower. I love going into a client meeting knowing that no matter what they need, there’s someone within AAB who can help. That knowledge gives me the confidence to cross-sell our services, and I’ve seen firsthand the benefits it brings to our clients. While it can feel daunting to collaborate with clients on such a wide scale, the support of my colleagues has been invaluable. Clients also benefit from the strong network we’ve built within the firm.”

More than what meets the eye

“People often think that accountants are boring, but I love proving that’s not true. I enjoy interacting with clients, building relationships, and showing them that there’s so much more to this profession than meets the eye. The personal connections we create along the way make all the difference, and that’s what makes this job so rewarding for me.”
