“I love being part of a client’s journey and success story.”

Jordan Taylor is an Audit Director, based in our Edinburgh office. He is responsible for the delivery of high-quality audit services to our clients. As a director, Jordan ensures that projects are successfully managed from initial engagement to final delivery. This involves ensuring the team on the audit has the necessary skills and tools they need to deliver for the client.

Jordan is also an ICAS Foundation Student Mentor. He is a keen advocate for social mobility and enjoys in this role and also as a director sharing knowledge and experience with those more junior than him to aid in developing their careers.

Delivering a smooth Audit process

“The strong foundation for any client relationship is built on mutual understanding, openness and trust. Building and maintaining strong relationships allows for healthy and robust discussions when required, which ultimately adds value to my client’s businesses.

A statutory audit is often seen as a challenging and disruptive process, but that shouldn’t be the case. Working with us throughout the process supports the team in identifying the appropriate risks and allows our clients to understand how to develop and grow. I love being part of a client’s journey and success story, there’s a great sense of achievement to be felt in accomplishing common goals.”

A focus on our people

“Audit is a people business, and we cannot deliver a high-quality audit or client service without them. We need our people to have the skills and experience to provide the personal service I know we can deliver and that comes from active engagement in developing our team each day. Watching our team grow in confidence whilst also helping our clients is highly rewarding, but also ensuring they’re having some fun along the way is just as important!”

Balancing how we deliver

“In audit, we are client-led in the balance between the virtual and ‘hands-on’ routes to deliver a tailored service. I want our teams to be out on client sites with a genuine purpose, collaborating with local management to conduct an efficient audit. Finding the balance between utilising remote technology and on-site presence is how we can best provide this.”

Adapting to regulatory and reporting challenges

“One of the main challenges in audit is the ever-evolving reporting and regulatory environment that we work within. To mitigate the risk, you really must work to get to know your clients and their businesses. You must ensure that the team are allowed to develop their skills and confidence in a supportive environment to enable them to carry out their job to the highest standard, but also ensuring our clients are aware of the key regulatory changes well in advance.”

Embracing growth and opportunities

“What’s exciting about AAB is that they’ve always grown, faced new challenges head-on and they’re always looking for ways to expand and adapt. Whilst doing those things they are also focussed on giving their employees new and challenging opportunities, whether that be through new business opportunities, service lines, or geographical location.”

Breaking the stereotype of auditors

“I don’t want myself or my team to be viewed as rigid, checklist-focused and robotic in our interactions. Particularly in recent years as audit quality has been very much in the public spotlight – it’s easy to see why that might be the case. I see this slightly differently and I know the team at AAB do too. Delivering a high-quality audit is vital to public confidence in what we do, but how we conduct our business both internally and externally is rooted in collaboration, transparency and efficiency. Our approach is tailored to the businesses we work with, rather than a one-size-fits-all-all approach.”
