“It’s a privilege to be able to help our clients to achieve their goals”

Glenn Hogg is the Head of Consulting, based in our Edinburgh office he works alongside colleagues and clients to shape and deliver engagements in creative ways that solve problems. He specialises in project leadership and strategy development, driving clients and their teams to get important things done.

As Head of Consulting Glenn provides hands-on expertise to help clients navigate their most challenging initiatives. Helping them to identify strategic options and develop creative ways of appraising those challenges. Each organisation is different and requires a unique approach that best fits what they’re trying to achieve. Glenn’s down to earth, client centric approach ensures he delivers value, while also connecting on a human level.

Glenn is also a Trustee on the board of our charitable initiative AABIE. Since its inception in 2016, AABIE has supported over 200 charities and community groups to deliver real impact that they would otherwise be unable to make. This gives him pride and fulfilment knowing that we are making a difference.

Connecting the dots between strategy and the organisation

“When working with clients, I find a great engagement has a few key ingredients. One- that there’s trust between us and the client. This helps us to establish open and honest communication ensuring that we’re not just working for them- we’re working together to reach the best solution possible.  Working in close partnership like this means we feel a sense of accountability for the outcomes of our work, not just the outputs.

Two- I look for clients to come into the project with an open mind. I understand that they might have an idea in their heads about what the solution will look like but that isn’t always the case and that might not be what the final result is. It’s great when clients are open-minded about the solutions we create because it shows that they trust us to come up with the best result in line with their objectives. Clients choose to work with us because of our breadth of expertise and experience but also our human first approach. They want us to provide insights from other clients with similar challenges, but they also want us to work with them in a collaborative way, rather us providing a solution off the shelf. It’s a privilege to be able to help our clients to achieve their goals in this way.

Lastly, it’s great when clients are ambitious about what they’re trying to do and are willing to apply the rigour and energy do tackle that ambition properly. Often, that means stepping out of their comfort zone, prioritising doing the right things rather than the easy ones.  The rewards of applying this rigour and being innovative with their strategies will be far-reaching and benefit their organisation in the long run.”

Taking satisfaction from the role

“The nature of our work is usually tackling significant challenges and high-risk business-critical initiatives.  So, I take huge fulfilment from the impact my client work brings to the organisation, its leaders and the teams I work with.

I enjoy working with colleagues to develop creative ways to tackle client problems – while a cliché, the breadth of experience and complementary skill sets in the team mean we offer greater value than the sum of our parts.  I also take huge satisfaction in supporting and seeing my colleagues grow and develop.  What we do is hard work and it’s great seeing that hard work pay off as people progress in their careers.”

Building great relationships wherever our clients are

“There’s no substitute for face-to-face interactions, and we will always advocate to bring people together physically for key sessions wherever possible. My preference will always be to work with clients at their offices. If I’m running a workshop with 20 people and that’s in person it gives us a great opportunity to interact, build relationships and also hear thoughts from different perspectives. When we’re in person, it’s so much easier to see where problems might exist and what we would need to do to solve them.

However, as consultants we are experts in running virtual and hybrid sessions with clients in interactive, inclusive and engaging ways, meaning it’s quite possible to carry out a whole assignment remotely.”
