Meet the Corporate Tax team
Large corporates, high growth entrepreneurial businesses, owner managed businesses and private equity backed businesses.
Proactive and commercial tax advice, often related to a transformational event for the business, such as a corporate acquisition, divestiture, or corporate reorganisation.
All sectors, with a focus on Food & Drink, Retail, and Technology.
I work closely with the Corporate Finance team, delivering tax due diligence and tax structuring advice to businesses, shareholders and management on a variety of transaction types (buy-side, sell-side, refinancings and fundraisings).
Based in our Edinburgh office, Alan Campbell is our Head of Corporate Tax. With extensive experience of advising entrepreneurial and high growth groups he supports businesses through every step of their growth journeys, whether this is organically or through business acquisitions.
Alan brings with him flexibility, resilience, and a desire to be hands-on in providing clients with a truly partner-led service. Working with a variety of different sized businesses, Alan’s clients also cross multiple industries, with particular specialisms including the Food & Drink, Retail, and Technology sectors.
“Before joining, AAB was on my radar for many years, particularly with regards to its prominence in the Scottish deals market. Working in a team which is on its own phenomenal growth journey allows me and my team to relate to the experiences of our clients. Seeing first-hand the rewards and opportunities which arise from being in a dynamic team, with real entrepreneurial spirit, is incredibly rewarding. It also allows me to emphasise with the day-to-day challenges that can arise when you don’t settle for the status quo.”
“The ideal client relationship, in my opinion, is one based on trust. I want clients to know that they can come to me for guidance beyond just my specialised area of Corporate Tax, knowing that I will bring the best of AAB to them to ensure that they get the rounded advice they need.
The best compliment to receive is when you help a client with a major event and management feed back that they were able to focus on other commercial aspects with the confidence that tax matters were being were being considered fully addressed.”
“Whilst the detail in the tax rules is critical to the advice we provide, as a profession we can be guilty at times of trying to show off the depth of our knowledge by quoting tax legislation. The real skill is being able to interpret the rules, explain in clear and straight-forward language to clients what it means for them and giving clear recommendations. Whilst clients make the ultimate decision, they want to know what you would do if you were in their position.”
“One of the things that attracted me to AAB is the innovative ways we look to embrace and harness technology. We are continuing to invest heavily in AI and RPA that will facilitate the automation of data processing in many parts of our business. We will never replace the human element of relationships and allowing our client and own teams to more effectively manage mundane tasks and experience more rewarding and value-adding tasks has never been so important.”
“Our structure means that we can continue to invest in our clients, teams, and technology. I am really excited to be part of the journey ahead with such an ambitious team. We have a clear plan for growth, with a focus on the areas which best allow us to develop our team, enhance the experiences of our people, and broaden the advice which we can provide to our much-valued clients.”
