Employee Share Schemes

Employee share schemes are a popular way for companies to attract, motivate, retain and reward their key employees. Share awards can be very generous, but too often we see employees struggling to understand their associated tax liabilities and reporting obligations, simply because of the complexities involved, particularly if they have worked overseas.

Share awards usually fall into two camps, those that are tax and NIC favourable, and those that are not. Where employees receive shares from either or both, it makes little difference in terms of this still being a highly complex source of income and gains when it comes to calculating the potential tax position on award, vesting or sale.
