HOW I HELP

Leading the Effective Operation of our People & Culture Function.

SECTORS/SUPPORT

Supporting the Senior Leadership Team. Part of the Executive Committee. Part of the Operational Board.

“I BRING A SENSE OF CALM.”

Robert Jarvis is our People & Culture Director and a key part of our Human Resources team. Based in London, his role is to lead the department as it supports the wider business, ensuring that the People & Culture function operates as effectively as it can.

As well as supporting the senior leadership team, Robert also sits on the Executive Committee and the Operational Board. This is where he is firmly focused on deciding the requirements and priorities of our organisation from an HR perspective. As well as making the most of any strategic opportunities to improve the employee experience.

SEEING IT FROM ALL ASPECTS

“There was a time when I was on the other side of the fence and a client of AAB, and I think that’s been a very valuable experience. I’ve also worked in numerous other sectors. So I’ve seen how it’s done in the public sector, retail, consultancy, energy and banking. That means I can use my experience of what works well and relate it to what we do here.

Someone once said to me, ‘You have the right combination of IQ and EQ to be successful’, and that’s always stuck with me. Whether that’s true or not, people do say that as well as my knowledge and experience, I bring a calm approach to the team. No matter how stressful the situation, I can stay cool and collected and make sure I get the best outcome for the company and our employees.”

A REWARDING ROLE

“I really enjoy the leadership and development aspects of my role. And of course, being able to deliver a great service for my organisation and the people who make it what it is. I also find it incredibly rewarding to foster strong relationships with my colleagues and all the partners I work with – ones that can stand the test of time. I’m also keen to maintain and grow my extensive network of contacts in London and across the UK, because that will bring many new opportunities for the firm.”

BUILDING A CULTURE

“Because we are growing and evolving so rapidly, one of my key challenges is alignment and integration. And that’s not just immersing everyone into the AAB way of life. It’s bringing all the cultures together and then preserving the best bits to create the company we want to be in the future. The good thing is we already have a very strong sense of identity and a positive, empowering culture, so that makes the whole process easier. It’s something that I find fascinating and very exciting.”

PROUD TO CHALLENGE

“There’s nothing more satisfying for me than talking to people, listening to people and understanding where they’re coming from. It’s building those long term relationships that I enjoy – and it’s such an important part of what we do.

I’m also very proud to be a part of AAB. We’re not afraid to push innovation. I think that’s one of our big USPs. And if we think there’s a better way to work, we’re given the freedom to change and try something new. We’re challengers and we can afford to be that way because of the relationships we build.”
