“I WALK HAND IN HAND WITH MY CLIENTS TO HELP THEM ACHIEVE THEIR GOALS; I’M THERE EVERY STEP OF THE WAY.”

Melanie Hill is a Senior Customs Consultant who works remotely. She coordinates the activities of various departments concerned with the production and distribution of products and services surrounding cross-border trade for the UK and the rest of the world.

Melanie helps businesses achieve their targets in a dynamic and complex environment. She has an excellent commercial approach to solving problems and developing business processes within budget. The businesses she supports are of a wide range of sizes, and across a variety of sectors and areas – including international supply chain management, virtual customs management, classification, duty reclaims, export controls, HMRC and internal audits, and customs brokerage.

Having worked and lived in Asia, America, Oceania, and Europe, Melanie likes to extend her support to businesses that have divisions across the world.

THE FIRST PORT OF CALL

My ideal relationship with a client would be one built on trust and transparency. When I work with a customer, I like them to see me as an extension of their team. All relationships are built on good communication, trust, and respect, and when I am the first port of call for a client when they need support that shows me that the relationship is growing in all the right areas.”

HONESTY & INTEGRITY

“Clients expect honesty, integrity, and (of course!) help from me. Customs is a minefield of complexities, and so it’s important to me that clients know that I will walk hand in hand with them to help them achieve their goals; I’m there every step of the way.”

HAVING A POSITIVE IMPACT ON A CLIENT’S LIFE & BUSINESS

“Having a genuine positive impact on a client’s business is a great feeling. This could be ensuring that someone feels like they have someone on their side, or it could be having a catch-up with one of my team and brainstorming. I have also been a customs trainer in many areas surrounding international cross-border trade, as I love to share my knowledge with people.”

REPUTATION IS EVERYTHING

“Customs is a complex and goal-driven part of any business that incorporates the movement of products and services and, in order to do a fantastic job, our reputation is everything.”

METHODS OF COMMUNICATION

“The divide between virtual and hands-on approach is wide-ranging, we live in the age of convenience and the virtual approach seems to suit businesses more and more. Of course, I love a face-to-face meeting but I’m able to apply the same professionalism and relationship-building to virtual communication.”

BREXIT-RELATED CHALLENGES

“Brexit has been the biggest challenge of any customs professional, the great shake-up of our time. It’s been challenging but exciting to lead throughout Brexit to ensure businesses continue to thrive.”

CONSTANTLY PROGRESSING

“We really do have a fantastic team within AAB; the support and guidance from my peers and colleagues excite me, as it helps me to constantly progress. The dynamic within the team is amazing, and together there isn’t much we can’t achieve.”

STRENGTH IN TEAMWORK

“One of the group values is that ‘collaboration is our superpower’ – although we are strong individually, we are so much stronger together. We embrace many years of experience in many different areas and when we work together it creates an amazing landscape for our customers and colleagues.

One of the main strengths I bring to AAB is my ability to be a team player, to assist and support my colleagues and clients in making a difference. In fact, the greatest compliment I have received from a client was that I was a valued part of their team.”
