“GOING ABOVE & BEYOND TO EXCEED CLIENT EXPECTATIONS.”
Ciara Ryan is a Manager within the Corporate Tax team. Based in the Newry office, Ciara’s role is to deliver corporate tax compliance services to clients, ensuring that they remain tax complaint. She also assists companies with tax advisory projects such as group reorganisations and tax due diligence.
Building meaningful relationships
“For me, an ideal client relationship is one which is built on trust and communication. It involves listening and understanding a client’s goals and delivering these goals through high quality service. Going above and beyond to exceed client expectations and consistently adding value is essential in establishing a long-term relationship. Having regular communication is also key to maintaining this relationship.
Alongside providing high quality advice and timely delivery of services, I aim to be available to my clients for any queries or issues that may arise. I also feel it’s important to keep my clients up to date with any changes to tax legislation and to make them aware of any tax planning opportunities.
Guiding clients through challenges and seeing positive outcomes helps build meaningful relationships. It is very rewarding to see clients achieving their goals knowing that I have been a small part of their journey.”
In-person meetings will always have their place
“I think the way in which virtual working has developed over the past number of years has provided greater flexibility for our clients and allows for work to move at a much faster pace. However, I don’t think that virtual meetings can replace the need for in person meetings, but rather they complement each other. In terms of my preferred balance, I very much let the client take the lead.”
The biggest challenge
“I believe the biggest challenge in tax at the moment is keeping up to date with the constant changes to tax legislation. To keep on top of the ever-changing landscape of tax, as well as doing independent reading, the tax department have regular knowledge sharing meetings allowing group discussions on any new changes.”
Collaboration is our superpower
“Everybody knows something and nobody knows everything. By collaborating with colleagues across various teams and offices, we bring together people with diverse skills, experiences and perspectives. This allows for a wider range of ideas and solutions to be considered, leading to better decision-making and problem solving.
I love that AAB promotes a culture of listening to everyone’s opinions from Trainee to Partner, which gives me the confidence to question decisions and suggest new ideas.”
Teamwork makes the dream work
“My greatest strength is teamwork and I pride myself on being able to work well within one. There is a great sense of teamwork within the tax team and working with colleagues provides great opportunities for knowledge sharing and to learn from each other. I also really enjoy working collaboratively with colleagues in various offices across different teams.”
Breaking stereotypes
“Accounting is much more than just number crunching. There’s a large misconception, particularly in the tax profession, that we’re only concerned with numbers and that we lack creativity. However, this could not be further from the truth. This stereotype overlooks the problem solving and analytical skills required to advise clients on business strategy and financial decision making. At AAB, we adopt a commercial mindset to problem solving, and we’re always finding innovative ways support our clients.”
