“Respond quickly. Add value. Help clients move forward.”

Based in our Dublin office, Ruairí is an Audit Partner with responsibility for leading audits for a broad range of clients, from owner-managed businesses to subsidiaries of large US and European entities. His portfolio spans a broad mix of sectors and ownership structures, giving him wide exposure to different business models and reporting environments. That breadth allows him to approach challenges with perspective and practical insight.

Working across sectors

“My time is split between developing the audit department, planning new assignments, reviewing files and responding to client and team queries as they arise. That might mean helping a manager work through a reporting issue in the morning and discussing a new engagement with a finance director in the afternoon.

What I enjoy most is the exposure to different industries. One week you might be working with a manufacturing business, the next with a hospitality group or a not-for-profit organisation. Some are family-owned, others are subsidiaries of US or European parent companies with very different reporting expectations and timelines.

That variety sharpens your thinking. It means you’re constantly adapting, learning how different businesses operate and bringing ideas from one sector into another. Often, something you’ve seen in one industry can help solve a problem somewhere completely different.”

Build trust early

“Building rapport from the start is important. If you create that connection early, conversations are easier and more open. Clients are more comfortable raising issues, and you’re less likely to be blindsided by something late in the process.

We’re not there to catch people out, we’re there to help them run their business and stay compliant. A lot of that comes down to communication, being accessible and making sure clients feel they can pick up the phone before something becomes a bigger issue.

For me, one of the biggest compliments is when a client recommends you to someone else. That shows trust. They’re effectively putting their name beside yours, and that only happens when someone is really happy with how you supported them.”

A practical way forward

“I’ve always been quite analytical in how I approach problems. I like understanding how a business works, how the numbers tie together and where potential risks might sit, not just on paper, but in how the business actually operates.

Clients don’t always need a long explanation; they need a clear answer and a practical way forward. Being able to assess a situation quickly, apply the standards properly and explain the outcome in plain terms is where I think I add value.

The most satisfying part of the role is helping a client work through an issue efficiently and knowing they’re confident in the outcome and clear on what happens next.”

Adapting across sectors

“The regulatory environment doesn’t stand still, and neither do businesses. Staying up to speed technically is important, but so is staying adaptable. You have to be able to move between industries, understand what matters most in each one and adjust your approach accordingly. The role constantly pushes you to learn, and that’s something I’ve always enjoyed.”

Looking Ahead

“At AAB, there’s a genuine focus on innovation and bringing solutions to clients that help them across every facet of their business. That’s exciting as it means we can take on new and evolving challenges, bringing even more value to clients, while retaining that consistent, reliable delivery.”
