How I help

Audit & Assurance.

“I provide organisations with trusted audit support and financial insight.”

Rebecca Sabery is an Audit Manager based in our Bolton office. She balances a varied role leading audit engagement, reviewing statutory accounts, and supporting both clients and colleagues. As a key point of contact for many of her clients, she advises on financial reporting issues and regulatory requirements while ensuring audits run smoothly from planning through to completion. Alongside client work, Rebecca is committed to developing future talent, acting as a training counsellor for apprentices and contributing to internal training across the team. She also plays an active role in departmental management, including resource planning and preparing proposals for prospective clients.

Her portfolio is diverse, spanning small and micro-entities through to large corporates and groups across sectors such as construction, manufacturing, recruitment, life sciences, and engineering. Rebecca also brings valuable experience from the automotive, pharmaceutical, and training industries. In addition to her corporate work, she has built a specialist focus in the not-for-profit sector, managing numerous charity audits and independent examinations each year.

A decade of knowledge and experience

I’ve built a strong technical foundation and a clear understanding of the challenges organisations face. My knowledge of statutory reporting, compliance requirements, and audit processes allows me to guide clients through financial matters with clarity and confidence.

I’ve worked with businesses of all sizes, from different sectors, and I’ve learnt how important it is to adapt my approach to suit each organisation’s structure and goals. Alongside this, my management experience has equipped me to coordinate teams, manage deadlines, and keep everything moving smoothly, ensuring clients feel supported at every stage.”

Finding a work-life balance that works

“One of my biggest challenges came after returning from maternity leave following the birth of my son. I reduced my working days from five to four, but kept my existing client portfolio, and gained more as the firm grew. To make this work, I had to sharpen my time management skills, delegate more effectively, and run audits in a smarter, more efficient way.

This experience taught me the value of clear communication and investing time in training junior members of the team. By building their confidence and technical knowledge, I’ve been able to see them step up into senior roles, something I find incredibly rewarding.”

Strong client relationships at the core

“Strong relationships are the foundation of my work. I make it a priority to be approachable, responsive, and proactive. Whether it’s keeping clients updated during an audit or helping them work through technical queries, I aim to build trust by being thorough, transparent, and available.

Some of my clients have been with me for many years. One in particular calls me regularly throughout the year to discuss issues, which shows the confidence they have in my advice. Interestingly, our relationship didn’t start smoothly; delays in the early days meant they almost moved away from us. But by being attentive, resolving issues quickly, and delivering audits on time year after year, we’ve built a strong and lasting partnership.”

Taking learnings from clients

“I love that my role gives me insight into so many different industries. Seeing how each business operates and supporting them to strengthen their financial reporting is hugely rewarding. I’m able to use some of this insight for my clients in other industries and show them what others are doing to help them make better decisions.

Audit isn’t just about numbers. It’s about people, teamwork, and problem-solving. That variety is what keeps me engaged and makes the role so much more than the stereotype of “accountants behind a desk.”

Helping clients overcome challenges

“One of the most memorable challenges I’ve helped a client with was around stock records. Their weak procedures not only delayed the audit but also led to fraud within the business. To resolve this, I worked with them ahead of year-end, putting a structured stock take in place.

I provided guidance, sent experienced staff to observe, and helped set up a repeatable process. The result was stronger controls, reliable stock records, and a system that gave the client confidence while also protecting against fraud in future years.”

Bespoke advice, tailored to the client

“I work closely with clients in the not-for-profit sector, where one of the biggest challenges is keeping up with ever-changing regulations and the detailed requirements of the Charity SORP. Attention to detail is key, particularly around grant funding and expenditure restrictions.

Many not-for-profits don’t have large finance teams, and trustees are often not from financial backgrounds. That’s why I always take the time to break things down and present accounts in a way that’s both compliant and meaningful. A tailored approach makes all the difference.”
