AAB / Our Team / Rachel Inman
Meet the Audit & Assurance team
Owner managed businesses. Small and medium sized limited companies. Charities.
Audits. Management Accounts and VAT returns. Year-end Accounts. Corporation tax.
Property. Charities. Country Estate. Audit and Business Advisory departments.
Rachel Inman is an Audit Assistant Manager based in our Leeds office. Rachel’s role focuses on leading on-site teams performing audits and reviewing and preparing regular management accounts and VAT returns for clients. Rachel is also responsible for the preparation of year end accounts and corporation tax computations. Although Rachel is involved in the delivery of audits across various industries, she specialises in charities and is a member of our Not-for-Profit sector team.
“Mutual respect plays a big part in building and maintaining a good client relationship, and one in which we can both learn from each other. We deliver a professional service, whilst remaining approachable. We take the time to explain things to our clients in an understandable way that relates to their needs. I pride myself on my ability to build relationships with my clients and feel I am a valued advisor to them. I recognise the need to challenge thoughts and working practices, which clients appreciate as it provides them with a sounding board for their business.”
“For me, one of the best things about AAB is working with good people and gaining additional knowledge from experienced team members. There is always something to learn in terms of both technical knowledge and soft skills.
The AAB group is in an exciting growth stage. I’m looking forward to working with new people in the future and even more interesting clients. We already make use of new technology and knowledge to help existing clients and it’ll be interesting to see what advancements the next few years will bring.”
“Virtual working is great for obtaining information and working efficiently, but for me, nothing really beats having a proper face to face conversation with a client to understand their needs and how their business operates. Clients appreciate the personal touch, and we tailor our communication to what fits best for them. Most clients are happy using technology and appreciate that we can offer to work in this way, but others prefer a different approach. We are mindful of what suits our clients as they are first and foremost in everything we do.”
“As a member of our Not-for-Profit sector team, one of the challenges I face is the knock-on effect of charities not having as much funding available for them as they did previously. This can lead to constraints on their teams and their time, so planning and communication are key to enable the work to be completed in good time and to agreed budgets.”
“At AAB, nothing is more important than our people. We have a great team in Leeds and a wealth of experience here and across the rest of the group. There are always opportunities to get involved in new work and progress through the organisation.
We have lots of team events throughout the year which is a good opportunity to meet up with team members from other departments who you may not ordinarily work with. This gives me the chance to build relationships with those team members and consider how their knowledge could be of benefit to my clients.”
“One of my greatest strengths is my experience. I’ve worked with a variety of clients of different sizes for many years and I also spent four years working in industry where I gained valuable experience of the outside world and an understanding of what it was like to be audited. That helped my approach to dealing with clients, particularly audit clients.
I understand what clients are going through at their year end and the other challenges they may face at the same time as the audit work. I have an empathetic approach to clients, developed over years of working with existing clients and building relationships with new clients. I’m diligent and feel that my skills and knowledge are trusted by other managers.”
“A client for whom I prepare quarterly management accounts and VAT returns made this comment: “Everyone I deal with at AAB is great, so helpful and knowledgeable. I love the fact that staff are there long term and consider them friends.” It’s so rewarding for me and the team to receive such positive feedback and we appreciate our clients taking the time to comment.”
“There is a common misconception that accountants are dull, and their work is too. In reality it is an interesting and varied job, dealing with lots of different types of clients and industries. There are always opportunities to meet interesting people – both clients and other team members. The work we do is very people focused rather than just number crunching.”
