Jen Kinnear is a Tax Manager, and works within the private client team, primarily working with individuals or solicitors/executors/trustees.
Jen works with a breadth of clients across Edinburgh, Glasgow and Stirling, and her client portfolio covers a wide range of sectors, including property, agriculture, and food and drink.
Jen takes on a proactive approach in providing quality advice to her clients to ensure that it is both tax efficient and suitable to their wider circumstances. Jen likes to take the time to get to know her clients so that she can provide advice best suited to them and their families and not just based purely on tax savings.
“For me, an ideal relationship with a client is one where you get to know them beyond simply dealing with their tax affairs. Especially working within the private client team, I believe it is so important to take the time to really get to know our clients as people, and know their views and relationships with family etc to be able to provide bespoke advice. Not only is it important to get to know our clients from a work perspective, but it is also a joy to be always working with people from many walks of life, everyone has a different story or has taken a different path.
My clients can always expect trust and reassurance from me. Because we are dealing with personal tax affairs and family wealth – clients need to be able to trust us implicitly and feel comfortable asking us whatever questions they may have. It is important to me to cultivate a trusting working relationship with my clients.”
“Tech has certainly found its place in the accountancy sector, creating efficiencies and more streamlined processes, and allowing meetings to happen more frequently and spontaneously. I embrace a tech-enabled approach, however, there is still a place for in-person meetings – it is a lot more personal sitting around a table having a face-to-face discussion with our clients, especially when it comes to the likes of Inheritance tax.”
“There are great challenges when it comes to tax. Firstly, there is a huge demand for tax advice out there, and simply not enough hours in the day. That’s why it is important to me to take the time out to plan and prioritise to ensure that deadlines are met, and quality advice is provided in a timely manner.
Secondly, there have been numerous changes, and then reversals, and then changes again to many elements of tax in the last few years making planning difficult. In response to this, I keep up-to-date with legislation changes as they occur to make sure that we are providing the most up to date advice to our clients.”
“One of the greatest strengths that I bring to AAB is my proactive and pragmatic approach to my work. I believe a proactive approach allows me to tackle the task at hand in a timely manner, bringing peace of mind to my clients.
I am also not afraid of a challenge and enjoy taking on new tasks and working with new people. “
“With AAB going through a significant growth stage, I am the most excited about the great opportunities that the continued growth will offer for both myself and my clients. It is nice to see the firm putting people at the heart of everything it does, encouraging and developing existing staff as opposed to the growth becoming a barrier.”
