Who I help:

Partners and Internal Teams. Multinationals. SMEs.

How I help:

Regulatory Guidance and Training. Technical Advisory. Risk & regulatory oversight. Cross-jurisdictional guidance. CPD leadership and delivery.

“Understanding the ‘why’ is as important as the rule.”

Technical Partner Garret is based in our Dublin office and is responsible for regulatory guidance, education, and training across Ireland and the UK. He supports partners and teams on complex accounting standard interpretations and regulatory reporting matters, delivers internal CPD training, and proactively ensures our team stays up to date on evolving accounting and audit standards. His work spans across multiple sectors and jurisdictions, giving him a broad technical perspective and a deep understanding of how standards apply in practice.

Delving into the detail

“A significant part of my week is spent analysing technical queries and supporting partners on live client matters. That might involve reviewing how a new accounting requirement applies to a specific business, examining an audit file to ensure the standards are applied in line with expectations, or advising before a complex judgement is finalised.

Because I sit across risk and regulatory compliance, I’m often asked to assess a proposed approach early in the process and apply my expertise and experience.

The standard provides the framework. The judgement determines how it’s applied.”

Breaking it down

“Technical guidance only works if people can use it confidently. My focus in training is to make sure the team understands both the requirement and the reasoning behind it.

I deliver CPD sessions across Ireland and the UK, structured around real issues that are emerging in files and client conversations. That keeps the learning grounded and directly relevant.

When someone brings me a question, I’ll usually ask for their view first. Developing judgement is part of the process. I firmly believe technical support should build capability and knowledge across the team, rather than simply being the go-to expert.”

Keeping pace across borders

“Regulation is constantly evolving. Accounting standards change, company law updates, reporting frameworks shift, and those changes don’t always align perfectly between Ireland and the UK.

Staying current means continuous monitoring, research and discussion with colleagues across the group. It also means translating changes into clear internal guidance so the response is consistent across offices.

Recently, I supported a client looking to adopt the upcoming FRS 102 changes early. That involved assessing eligibility, guiding the audit team through the implications and ensuring the disclosures were properly reflected. It’s a good example of how technical support directly influences delivery.”

Challenging assumptions

“Technical support isn’t separate from audit work. It strengthens it.

When guidance is clear and well-considered, it improves file quality, reduces risk and gives partners confidence when engaging with clients.

Consistency matters, particularly in a growing company. My role is to ensure the laws, compliance requirements, and regulations are applied consistently and in a way that’s supportive and scalable. I’m very comfortable doing that having held a technical role throughout my career.”

Where AI meets Regulatory Change

“Technology is changing how information is accessed and interpreted. AI creates opportunity, but also complexity. Responsible use of technology requires awareness of confidentiality, data security, and the limitations of automated responses.

Where technology can improve efficiency, particularly in research or documentation, it should be embraced. But professional knowledge, context, and experience remain essential. Those are not replaceable.”

Looking Ahead

“My role has expanded recently, creating opportunities to take a more holistic view of regulatory and technical oversight across the group, while retaining jurisdictional knowledge. I look forward to continuing to bring clarity and consistency across our growing team.”
