How I help

Audit & Assurance services.

“More than compliance, we deliver audits that add real value.”

Amy McKnight is an Audit Manager based in our Bolton office. She brings a blend of technical expertise, client focus, and team leadership to all her engagements. Having progressed from apprentice to her current role, she’s spent years building a deep understanding of both the firm’s clients and the audit process.

Her week is a varied mix of managing charity audits, acting as an Audit senior on complex engagements, and mentoring junior colleagues. Whether she’s coaching on audit methodology, reviewing work, or helping others build confidence, Amy’s approach is always supportive and hands-on. She works closely with audit managers and partners, and is regularly client-facing, ensuring every piece of work is delivered to the highest standard.

A natural fit for numbers

“I’ve always had a head for numbers and a love for solving problems. So, accountancy felt like the right path. During my apprenticeship, I got a taste of different areas, but audit quickly stood out. I was hooked by the variety, the challenge of putting the puzzle pieces together, and the insight into how businesses really tick. That early interest shaped my career, and it’s confirmed that audit is where I can make the biggest impact.”

Clarity builds confidence

“Over the years, I’ve built strong technical knowledge that gives clients confidence in the work I do. But what I believe sets me apart is how I explain things. No jargon. Just clear, straightforward advice that helps clients see what really matters. I’m always working on my communication skills, because audit is about people as much as numbers. I aim to be a trusted advisor, not just someone who ticks boxes.”

Trust starts with openness

“I focus on being friendly and approachable from day one. Clients should feel at ease asking questions, knowing they’ll get honest answers. At the same time, I make sure expectations are crystal clear from the start. That helps avoid misunderstandings and builds trust. It’s about finding the right balance between being supportive and being professional.”

Earning trust, easing pressure

“One client stands out. They’d had a tough time with their finances before we came on board. What they needed most was someone reliable and someone who could make their lives a bit easier. I kept communication strong, made myself available, and focused on delivering a smooth first-year audit. It paid off. We built a solid relationship, and they now trust us to take care of things year after year.”

Building relationships that last

“The best part of my job is building long-term relationships that minimise the stress of audit. I pride myself in being a steady point of contact, someone they don’t just hear from once a year, but someone who understands their business and cares about getting things right. That trust makes the work meaningful.”

Team first, always

“Our team is one of the biggest strengths in the Bolton office. We’ve built a supportive, close-knit environment where sharing knowledge comes naturally. As a relatively new part of the wider AAB group, we’ve already seen the benefits—more resources, more expertise, and more opportunities to grow. That support helps us deliver even better results for clients.”

More than numbers

“A common misconception about auditing is that it’s just a compliance requirement. In reality, audits go far beyond simply “checking the numbers.” They can identify control deficiencies, highlight areas where processes could be more efficient, and uncover recurring issues so they can be addressed proactively. This means audits not only provide assurance, but also help clients improve their business operations and reduce future risks.”
