Aberdeen Learn To Swim

“Thank you so much for funding the new plinth changing bench for Learn to Swim, International School.

My daughter Allissa is almost 10 and has Cerebral Palsy, she uses a wheelchair and can not stand alone. She needs to lie down to get dressed and changed.  I never like to hinder her activity due to her disability however after weeks upon weeks of agonising (for me), wet, miserable changes after swimming, even her enthusiasm and love of the water wasn’t enough for me to put myself through so much pain, I was close to cancelling her lessons and giving up. I cried most weeks and I felt the physical and emotional weight of her disability more than ever before.

Having the height adjustable changing bench changed all of that in an instant. The delight of not having to bring 5 towels and a yoga mat and not leaving miserable and in agony was joyous.  I am now able to fully enjoy her lessons as much as she does. We relax afterwards in the café and enjoy a snack instead of rushing out to cry in the car.  I have enrolled my young son now too because I am confident that I can change both children comfortably because of the bench.” Allissa’s Mum
